WTF!
Everytime I attempt to use Google Earth it locks up my computer!!!....:mad2:
I am so friggin' tired of re-loading this crap!!
Does anyone else have any problems with this program???
I mean, It has some really cool features...like standing on your own street and looking at the front of your house....BUT what a friggin' PITA!
It 'F's up my computer almost everytime I use it!

What have you done to troubleshoot this so far? Do any other graphic intensive applications or games cause similar crashing? Have the latest video drivers for your system's graphics card? That'd be some place to start.
Or, perhaps I can offer you a better operating system? ;)

Oddly enough you'd have problems on Ubuntu too...IF you're running a specific graphics driver and using the fancy eye candy features of the linux desktop. I know from experience with Ubuntu 8.04 and an ATi 9800pro - easy fix though
Joe I take it this is a Windows box, XP or Vista?
In the start menu Google Earth menu there should be, in addition to the Google Earth icon, two more:
Google Earth in DirectX mode
Google Earth in OpenGL mode
Directx is generally default for Windows. Try running in OpenGL mode. Also, in Google Earth, go to "Tools" "Options" "3d" tab, top right of that tab you can select which mode, but also there is a "Safe mode" button. You may lose some eye candy but see if that stabilizes it.
If so:
1.) Update directx - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
2.) Update your graphics card driver

Seriously as was said you may have to do some tweaking to get it to perform properly. Would help to know the specs of your system.

Joe,
Good job! Didn't you know that to use a PC at home you have to be a full-time sys admin? LOL!
Bad enough that you have to be a full-time mechanic to mod an MM like you do and then to have to be a Computer guru as well just bites!

Only thing with Google Earth is it is outdated. Like 2-3 years.... Other than that work well here.

But seriously, there is a delay. My house hasn't been white for 3 years.:)

And the white E150 van in my driveway has been gone since January 2006. Photo looks to be from October 2005 -- nearly 3.5 years at least.

It is really cool how you can click the 'clock' tab at the top of the page and then go back and 'age' the satellite photos.
The area around my parent's house in Rockville can be reviewed back to 1988...before my old high school was completely gutted and renovated.
I wouldn't even recognize it now.
Downtown Wash. DC can be reviewed back to the 1940s....the Mall is completely different...No Smithsonian museums!
New York Ccity can be reviewed back to before the loss of the Twin owers...:(
I guess that I should revise the title of my thread....:o

I drove by a Google car going to work 2 years ago, they finally posted the pics but my car didn't pass when the shutter went :(
Anyone find a MM on streetview yet?

Someone posted one less than a year ago .... if I could only remember some "keywords" to find it.
