Hey guys looking to add a remote starter to the MM. Looking to just replace the remote i have now, not add another one. Any suggestions on quality brands or should I just go through ford and get their starter. Thanks for any help guys.

Ford probably is the most reliable. I have Viper no issues what so ever. And i get to see my car on my remote :D

I have a Ready Remote from DEI. Has been self-installed for over 4 years with no problems.

In '02 when I got mine I had a Code Alarm installed by a Dealer Accessory Company that works with a lot of Dealerships. If I remember Ford was just getting away from Code Alarm brand, 5 1/2 years and no troubles what so ever:up:
Check with a member here by name of the The Dealer (Ray) he will help you out:up:

The "Ford" option is by Code-Alarm (lowest bidder -remember?) and at best is the lowest of reliable in the aftermarket field. Use DEI (Clifford, Viper, etc) and find a skilled installer. Any jacklick can throw a ball of wires under the knee bolster and call it an install. If you want security - which you do, the door and trunk trigger wires are at the LCM. As is the parking lights, headlights and horn. Protect it if you're putting on a remote starter - you don't want it swiped while running. Insist on hood protection too - nothing worse than opening the hood and cutting cables to defeat the system.

I've had my Ford remote start (aka-code alarm) in for some time now, as well as most of my family members and friends with remote starts, and they've been quite reliable.
The ONLY wire under the hood is to a fuel injector to use as a rpm feed. On the same system with the security module installed you would only have the addition of the siren wiring under the hood.

I have had the Ford Code-Alarm in my Sport for 4 years, works like a champ. I also have a "spare" unit, NIB that I stumbled across. If someone wanted that system, I would pass my savings along to them.

The Code-Alarm transmitter is durable - but 22 years in the biz tells me the long-term durability of the whole system. The Viper remote start installed in my 1995 Taurus still works to this day for the second owner. That unit is now 12 years old. I know nothing about the current Code-Alarm products - they may be defunct now.

I've not had any issues, but I came across a complete unit for $100, so I bought it. I believe Code-Alarm is still in business. Most all autostarts are inexpensive, it is the install labor that will kill you, if you can do it yourself.... go for it, I did.

Code Alarm is still in business, but they were bought by Audiovox who so far has been keeping the line intact.
