View Full Version : Dont let your car detonate.
I had the blue out for the 1st time this year yesterday.
I was chasing down a fuel problem last year and thought I had it fixed after I did the fuel filter mod and added a BAP.
So I took it out yesterday and got on it. I watched my wideband go above 12 for a split second, and also heard the faintest sond of detonation, so I immediately got out of it. Realizing the fuel issue was not fixed, I just drove home, cause now I know its a bad pump or something in-tank.
Start it up this morning.....
tap tap tap tap tap.
Same crap that happened to Billy G's car.
Im positive the oil pump gears are cracked and hurt the #1 rod bearing.
Soooooo frustrating! Its not gonna cost any money to fix, cause I have all the parts here already.
Not sure I will have a Marauder to take to Kentucky at this point.
Great 2009 so far. :bigcry:

Sucks man. I wish I was closer to help out.
Down here in FL... in the hot humid weather **** detonates a lot.
Back in 2001 when I got the Vortech on my old Cobra (screenname) I had to take it back to get re-tuned by Superships 4 times. It would hit 4psi @ 4k rpms and I would start to hear the little tick noise... let out.
To make it safe for a DD with the occasional romp... it was detuned to 350rwhp... on the dyno... controled environment it made 404rwhp.
Remember this is a 96 Cobra, Vortech V1 on 7psi back in 2001.

Man, that sucks, but fortunately you caught it before it grenaded.
Worse comes to worse, can you drive the 'stang to KY?
BTW, you want one of them shirts?
12:1 and it detonated on you? how much psi and timing do you run?
The timing table thats in the car is based on a low 11 A/F
I always put the max amount of timing the engine will handle without detonation.
Dont get me wrong, when I add timing to my cars, they sometimes detonate, then I just back the timing off. This time (actually the first time in 6 years) I was very unlucky.

Sorry to hear your blues on the blue. Knowing you you will have it back running in no time.

I appreciate it.
When I have the room, I am going to try for a record.
Wake up. Pull the engine, tear it down, fix it, reinstall it, put it back in and get it running.

Seafoam! :bandit:
When I take the stang out of hibernation I typically don't step on the gas till I've damn near run it dry then ran another tank of fresh fuel through it. Gas thats sat for several months is not good for boosted cars.

I assuming that's what held you back from the Volo meet. You definitely have the ability to get it together Zack! If there's anything I can do let me know. I am a ASE Certified flashlight holder, ask Bob how g00d I am!
