View Full Version : Can we stop this "stuff"??

I need to speak up and say I am tired of all the censorship. I know this is a great place to obtain knowledge and has great people here too, but the limited amount of speech and photos must stop.
Example: I was off the site for a few days because of rehabing my place, I come back to see what has been posted up and someone had a picture. That picture got laughs from people, but by the time I am here it's gone... hmmmm why?
We are not children anymore and I am out of the third grade. I don't need anyone saying what I can look at, what words I cannot use or above all how to act. We all know the birds and the bees and probably more bad words than Red Fox. "Bad words" are used to express anger or sometimes they just come out when we have a certian emotion. So if they come out it's because we are feeling a certian way, being told not to say those words or having them removed is basicially telling me how to act.
When we all meet up at events we all shoot the BREEZE and drop an F-Bomb or two and no one cares. If there are kids around we all know not to say anything or at least act a little more proper. This place is not a kids site, it's a car site. Most of us love our cars to death and when we work on them or have a problem you just know I am not the only one yelling out a sware when I bust a knuckle or break something that finally gave away, especially when someone blows an engine... I don't think their reaction is "Oh no what do I do?"
Websites for kids have less censorship on them. Myspace for example is pretty much for teenages with a few adults in the mix. I assure you, 3 out 5 pages by teenagers will have what is called "foul language" in their page. Why do we have to be censored here when most of us are double that age?
It just occured to me that it's probably to keep the website alive. Donations will keep the site going, but other companies that keep the site going might not want to support this site anymore if bad words or dirty threads are posted. Am I right? The solution? New companies!
I go to a few car sites that have zero censorship and they are supported no problem. Why cannot that be done here? I'm sure it's not as simple as picking up the phone and getting someone to support the site, but if it's been done once it can be done again.
I seriously doubt peoples grandchildren visit the site, but when they show up to an event we all know better. Simply tell your grandchildren not to come here. (to the site) I know there are a few sites I go to that I wouldn't want my kids to go to... if I had any, but what child would find this site interesting? It's nothing more than data, gossip and laughs. If someone says they don't want to have their kid look at the site when they are on it, get them off your lap and go on the website on your own time... if anything you should be off the computer and playing with your grandchild, not going on the computer to find out more about your car.
Think of this as a letter for the suggestion box.
Thank you.

Not everyone wants to see and/or hear the "foul language". Show that you're more of a rounded person by not using them. Anyone can drop an f-bomb.

"This is and will remain a family site. We should have a more vast vocabulary to express ourselves. Swear words only show a lack of vocabulary and intelligence."
I am sure you would have found something along those lines in a thread when we had a falling out about the vendor situation.

I totally disagree. By taking those words out the site is showing a lack of vocabulary. Smart people swear too ya know.

Dom, you're not going to like this, but... when you pony up the money and buy this site, or make your own, then you can enforce any rule you like. Until that time, you're pretty much stuck with living within the rules of the Moderators/Owners here. If I ran it, it may be different, however, I don't so it isn't.

This is a privately owned and operated site. The owners establish the rules. It was stated again a little over a month ago here >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=50591&highlight=vocabulary
The Dark Side experiment with the "Anything Goes" mentality was a complete and utter failure within its first week. Some Jekyll's became Hydes very quickly. If you feel that you cannot express yourself without swearing like Redd Foxx or posting inappropriate pics -- then I suggest that you find another outlet for your "self-expression". I like you Dom --- but you can do better.

It's a suggestion, this is the suggestion area isn't it?
I'm not going to cry if things don't change in an hour. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way either. I know what you mean Paul, it's called reality I guess.... if no one in the "top position" cares.

I'm sure they care, however, they care to keep the place to suit their needs and wants. I don't really have a problem playing by their rules.

ummmmm last time I checked we have quite a few people on the site.
I don't know about that, but when I am with a group of people I always want to make sure everyone is happy, not just me, but that's just me. I'll give a little and everyone else will give a little so everyone is equally happy.
I still don't see why it has to be a "family site". If anything no family is perfect and every family will have conflict, concern and arguements. My dad didn't start swaring at me until about a year ago and it wasn't for an arguement. Almost every friends family I have gone to has had a few bad words in the house.
By saying it's a family site with no swaring, it's a contradiction in the real world... at least last time I was in it.

Dom it's probably just because old people were the first buyers of these cars when the site was started up.
I don't understand the need for a "family site," look at the mopar forums, they don't even have a sticky for forum rules for behavior and I've never seen an issue there.
 Zack..

Let's not call them old people, let's say first generation Marauder owners or longtime mm.net memebers. They don't label us, let's be nice to them. :)
I was 16 and 11 months when I got my car and even the dealership said I was too young for the car. I have also been told I am too young for the music I admire...
We must remember those who are twice or even three times our age were our age at one time too and I am positive as H.I.V. that they have not been g-rated 100% of their lives at all.
It's not really a matter of bad words, it's about censorship.
If we have no language filter my behavior will probably not change, but if I have a problem with my car or something breaks I'm would say more than an abbreviation for WTF? As almost anyone would.

Ever notice how you can say or call your dog the worst words/names in the book, or off the books, in the right tone and they wag their tails all happy and get excited to see you?
But if you say the nicest most encourage words or names to them in a harsh manner they run and hide?
Funny, huh?
Dom, we have bigger issues than swearing and pictures on this site! Just because anything goes the on other sites, does that mean that we are any other site? We are different! When you start your website, you can host whatever you want, and have no rules, if that's what you want. But don't "drop a deuce" in our home!

Uncivil writing leads to angry writing, and angry writing leads to arguments and hard feelings.
Life, while "R" rated, does not have to be. I'm sure some of the best writers in history could curse the spooge off a garbage scow, but that doesn't mean they wrote it down.
Dogs know the difference between angry and happy, and so do we.

I agree with Dom. It is frustrating sometimes when your really heated about some **************** that cut you off or you junk blew up, etc.
Just set it up in a way to where you can't be vulgar towards each other.
We are adults on an adult geared site. No one under 16 should be here, they have no reason to be.
I just figured i'd help Dom out on this one, doesn't really matter to me either way i enjoy the site and the people, just wish i could be myself when i'm online, I consider myself quite smart thank you, and i drop the f-bomb occasionally, ok often.

I just always find it funny that we post up a G-rated conversation but in person, its a completely different ball game. We throw words around in conversation that are nothing different then what's thrown around in a middle school cafeteria.
We can keep the rules about how other members are treated and how vulgar you can get to them, but maybe lifting the curse filter could work.
What I see on facebook and myspace which has kids logged on from age 10 is far worse then what can ever be posted on a adult oriented car site.
Then again, we abide by the rules of the house. They want it like church on Sunday then so be it.

I can swear like a sailor (and sometimes do ) but I know my audience. In polite society ie this forum, I do not want to risk offending someone, and I appreciate other people not assuming that I want to hear garbage from them. A single expletive is not the problem. It's what else is likely to go with it. In person..... fire away.;)

If you walked into a friend's house and they were devout Christians, who didn't like any swearing, wouldn't you respect them and the way they run their home?
It is not that big a deal...get over it.
You can still use some acronyms to get your point across.

So when you type in the bad words doesn't the software just block it out? Like if you said ****, doesn't it do like that there?
What's the difference between actually typing the word and letting the software do the job or doing the job yourself. I think most are grown up enough to figure out that it means exactly the same thing either way.
Isn't that kind of the point of having the software set up to do that?
Now, if people are intentionally misspelling these words to get their point across then...

I like the censorship, it allows me to be able to view this site from work some. Keep it up, moderators. Owners, you owns the site so youse gets to makes da rules. That's fine by me.
Anyone that cries "free speech" needs to remember the internet at large is a public forrum, not an individual web site. If you disagree with how this particular site is operated, you are free to buy and register a domain name, rent server space and set up your own site. Oh yes, don't forget to make sure patches are current and there are no open holes for hackers to deface your shiny new site with. Frankly, all that is a pain in the buttocks so I am happy to abide by the rules here.
p.s., My bumper doesn't sag. The trailer hitch holds it up nicely. Also, my comments are not directed at Motorhead. Just want to make that clear.

Don't try to push the envelope as it will result in some type of reaction from us.(not a reaction you will like) Keep it respectable.
