View Full Version : The Marauder "Scent"

Now the title of this thread is sure to get a lot of different comments--and probably even more since I started it--cause here lately I seem to be misunderstood more on some recent comments of my own---maybe I should put more dashes(-----'s) in my comments--a friend in Fla is getting a big LOL at this point--anyway--------
As the title says--'The Marauder Scent-- what this means to me is the smell--yes its smell from its exhaust....
One of the first things I noticed right away 6 years ago when I heard the first MM start up was the aroma of its smell--its exhaust--it was withouta doubt the most unusual I had ever smelled in my life--somewhat sweet I suppose --but just the same--plain and simple--DIFFERENT-- so much fact--You , I and anyone else who has been around one could easily with their eyes shut -pick out the MM in a space of others when started up --due to its most unique exhaust odor.......
And you know what --after all these years , that order/smell has never differentiated one bit--no matter what oil you use or what type engine you have ( meaning changes you have made to it)....
I believe we all have noticed this in our own way --maybe even mentioned it others , maybe not for fear of being considered --lets say unusual--but the exhaust does smell GOOD --over the norm---now of course I don't mean in closed garages or spaces--ventilated ones of course--
So speak up --anyone else feel the same ..curious........whats been your thoughts on it smell--there is no question in my mind that the MM is different--but yet one all by itself--continuously on each start-up...........what do ya'll think?

Well to stay on topic, my car still has a bit of that new car smell inside it, BUT I will say that while I toss my school bag in the trunk after I turn on my car before I pull out, I do smell a bit of that sweet scent. Though I better not catch you tasting the water that comes out the pipes!

I know what you mean, and It smells real good when the car has been sitting for a couple weeks and you finally go to turn it back on. It's weird but it does have a distinct exhaust smell.

I never really thought about it, but i do agree with you. It does have a distinct and slightly intoxicating smell...mmm...I miss it,
If anyone feels like pulling in to my driveway and letting me bury my face in their exhaust pipe, feel free. Don't worry, I'll be quick.
EDIT: I've got some stock exhaust tips in my basement...they don't have the smell in them :(

.............but you do agree with me----....right.....they do have a most unique smell thats not recognized in other cars -----in my case,, it always occur right after I pull her out of the garage and the lingering exhaust , while door open of course, is there and --yeah--its ---well--why I started this topic --to see if others were willing to post up about it as well----..now
Now a group meet would be nice again---but the sniff will surely be the new topic--

Nothing like the first hot rod running down the street with race fuel! I love that smell! Or the nitro blast from a top fuel starting up in the pits! I cant wait for spring

Its the leather inside! Between the leather and the meguiars on the interior the smell is the best!

Yes yes yes! The smell of the premium burning and 300 ponies wanting to get out on the road!
Heres another smell, the smell of the first coat of wax for the season. Now I only use meguiars products and the waxs smell like a tootsie pop!
I like this thread so far!

SO its nice to read that there are some who smell my point here--()..but seriously, even with the funny remarks, it is a fact that some odors are a rush to us --and I was wanting to put our MM's out there as having a different , more of a real distinct difference in its exhaust ........well enough on that---
Like some have added, there are other aroma's that give us a "rush" and that's sweet too!!!!!!.....even without the loudness of my MM when running, my wife has said she could always tell when I moved the Rauder due to its unique exhaust I.D.

This is not widely known or disseminated, but each Mercury Marauder catalytic converter contained trace elements of the following:
testosterone
Bar-B-Q sauce
blood
guts
an undisclosed substance know to the state of California to cause manliness
Cuban cigar
tetraethyl lead
Mercury (duh!)
I reckon that's what you are smelling.

Its true. Mine went away with the Z tune.
Whatever he does to the tune changed the smell and that lovely lightly Lobed Cam sound you get for the first 60 seconds on a cold motor.
The trade off was well worth it.

Now you've gotten me curious. Can't say that I have ever noticed a particular aroma from the Marauder exhaust. Now I gotta check it out to see what this is about.
The sense of smell is a particularly strong memory stimulator .....
The smell of "Diesel in the morning" is an immediate reminder of my days in the Motor Pool and working with heavy trucks and construction equipment.
I enjoy the smell of "Hot fresh laid asphalt" reminding me of many days on paving jobs.
The smell of "Fresh broken earth" at construction sites another reminder of days past.

We all missed this favorite scent. My favorite for 2 reasons is the smell of roasted BFG's because
1) that means its summer and I am out creating huge wall clouds of smoke and
2) I am that much closer to finishing off these POS tires and on my way to getting some new treads!:burnout:

Will it reduce your exhaust emissions?

I haven't taken too many deeps whiffs from the tailpipes, but the scent I associate with my Marauder is thed slightly sweet smell of Meguiar's leather spray.
I promise to huff some tailpipe in about a month when I get her out of storage. :D

Just to get this all back on track----the smell --the scent that I referred too is the aroma whenever the MM is started --be it just coming out of the garage--or similar elsewhere--sometimes just in the open air when an MM has started up--it's there--that different aroma that is not from any other car---y'all know by now what I'm taking about-----and you catch a whiff----it is a different --all of its own --smell/odor-----
BTW-Glad there is a lot of post about this subject--which means y'all do smell it ----at least I have tried to bring it to the forefront in some way---its car stuff folks!!!!!!!!
