View Full Version : Changes you can make with the XCal2

Im posting this for 2 reasons....
1: To make you aware of the features this device can do.
2: To take the fear out of making changes.

First off, you can only make changes to your tune if the original dealer set it up for you. I ALWAYS include this when I send out tunes.

Here is a screen shot of the options that are available to be changed:

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn306/Marauder-Z/UserOptions.jpg?t=1236265206

As you can see, a bunch of stuff that might be bothering you with the car can be changed and quite easily. The screen on your XCal2 will not look like this, but the same options will be available.
As you can see there is a min and max table for the values. You can always remove spark, but never add it. (You can, but I guarantee no dealer will give you that option)
Then there is Global spark. Basically this adds or subtracts timing (in 1 degree incriments) across the entire timing table. If you go to the track and fill up with 100 octane, it is safe to add the full 4 degrees of global spark. (Disclaimer!: This is based on my own personal experiences, try at your own risk)

^^^I had to put that in there to save my butt!

Anyhoo, everything else is pretty self explanatory. Dont be afraid of messing anything up or the device itself.
The features are there for YOU, use them if needed! :beatnik:

Excellent writeup, Zack. Most tune chefs won't do this (the ones that I know) so it's good to see someone opening up these parameters on the tune.

With mine I just got my own copy of ProRacer, but I need someone smarter than me to help choose the values. I have a decent tune right now but whenever I mod again (soon) I'll need to go to school on this stuff.

On another note, has anyone seen a reason why everyone shouldn't have their shift points set to +25%

That's the way I've had mine since I got a tune.

The 25% shift poing increase can be a HUGE benefit to thoise running a DR tune. He set his tune to shift anywhere between 5400-5700 and 6200 is the most ideal rpm to shift at.
By changing your 1-2 and 2-3 shift to 6100-6200 can gain you a few tenths of a second is the 1320.

Now I have to look to see what my car is shifting at. I may be putting out a email to my tuner tonight. He has his trans schedule locked and I cant adjust it.

I checked and verified these parameters but found no need to adjust any. Thanks Zack for the info.

ITs all about the 1320!

Why don't we just spill all our secrets out? :shake: I sure hope GAMike or Mr. Pryor (sorry if I spelled it wrong) aren't reading this.

In all seriousness though, this is where your dyno graph comes in real handy. When the car shifts, you want the rpm drop to not fall out of your powerband. On the otherhand, you don't want to rev so high that you loose more hp (on the right side of your chart) than you do after the shift (rpm on the left side. Before today, I don't think the majority of the tunes out there were done like this.

I just got my XCal and loaded a Zack tune... I did a quick start up and WOT to make sure it ran... road test later on this evening and report by tomorrow!

I hit the [X] twice, and it didn't close. Had to reboot my computer, but it's still there ?!? Anybody?

So how do we get these parameters available - only through the tuner who we bought the Xcal2 from?? Can some one else do it?

I'm pretty sure any SCT Dealer can open those up...

I have them all...

Lidio sends his out "locked", so I'm guessing those parameters are not available to me. Since I got the underdrive pulleys, I'd sure love to raise my rpms at idle.

My old Xcal 3 with Lidio's tune (bought from wes) had all the options available, I raised the Idle speed and adjusted the shift pressure it worked great.
So maybe only Lidio's Xcal 3's are unlocked?? Because my current Xcal 2 is "locked" (it has the Trilogy base tune)

Some of this doesn't make sense, but in the event that it becomes relevant to me, I have bookmarked it.

What effect and purpose does setting the min speed limit have?

Where do I access this so I can make changes?

I just want to drop my idle a touch and soften the non-WOT 1-2 shift.

You have to have the .ll3 file format and use Live Load to upload the files to your XCAL2 to get those options.
