View Full Version : MAF question
Are our MAFs Marauder specific? Like if you wanted to see if yours was bad, would you have to replace/test it with one that was specifically for a Marauder?
Its not bad, I've yet to see a failed MAF after 7 years.

The Marauder has the IAT built into the MAF, that is why the Marauder has 6 wires, where as other Fords have only 4. I believe that the plugs are the same. The overall diameter of the inlet is larger than a 2v motor. Im not sure what drivability problems your are trying to rule out, but I believe a swap could be done fairly easily with other Ford designs.
However, I do agree with Zack, a MAF failure is unlikely!
I'm chasing a power loss. Cleaned the TB, new spark plugs, cleaned the MAF, swapped out the MAF, not a whole lot of difference was made. I can 'feel' a rough idle, and it is taking more peddle to get results. When I crank the car, the rpm's shoot well over 3grand, then drop down to 1grand, then quickly drop to around 4 to 5 hunnerd. :mad2:ing me off. Anybuddy got a known good TB for sale or borrow?

What if he powers the car down and restarts? Might that help?
I've pulled and cleaned all that stuff, even did the ol' Seafoam trick. A little improvment but not quite back to normal. I'm changing out the coil over plugs next. If that's not it, I'll pull the motor, stick in a crate, and buy another engine. If that doesn't help, engine and tranny. If that doesn't help, new car altogether. If that doesn't help, I'm done.

Very good use of the old TPS report
Did you get the memo.....
Were now putting cover sheets on ALL the TPS reports now.

Yep, that's my first impression also. They can be tested and swapped out one at a time, but you are just as far ahead to change 'em all. Especially if you're gonna do the plugs anyway.

There are other MAFs you can plug in (eg SVT Lightning), but you will have to remap the values. Most tuning software kits can do this, it's an option in the Sniper program we're using. Also, having the Trilogy, the IAT is already taken care of.

I went through a lengthly tap dance chasing down pretty much what you're describing. My truck would miss under light load in 5th gear (cruising) ; but wound right up to redline going through the gears until 4th. It idled OK and seemed to have plenty of power. In the old days we'd describe the symptom as running "stretchy", like when it was too lean or had a tad too much advance. In any case, it took a trip to the dealer's who found one COP "weak" and replaced it. Three months later. two more of 'em started acting up, and since it was time to change the plugs at 100K we changed plugs and the COP's as well.
Problem solved.....BTW, one might observe that the service life of the COP's is about the same as the plugs. :)

Got those being brought to me today...
