It helps that you've had your hands all over this type of engine a million times. When I do installs on certain cars it's like a breeze, don't even have to think twice and go into automatic mode with doing things.

Done for the night. Got a netflix movie to watch and the time change screwed me up.
Ill get it running tomorrow. Left to do:
Extend the wiring
Fill with Coolant
BAP
Vacuum lines.
Then I have to put it on the hoist the opposite direction and get the headers on, DS Loop and J-Mod.

It's a used Trilogy kit #188 and Jerry B. gave me a fantastic deal on it. When I looked at all my options as far as everything you get in the kits out their this was far and away the closest I could get to getting everything I would need. These Trilogy kits are fantastic and I believe worth every penny.

Plus it all came in two boxes shipped to my door in less then 2 weeks. :) I couldnt beat that.

Thanks for the compliment Doom. I have to give the credit to my dad (Baaadgn) on this one. I was talking to him about cleaning up the engine as the car sat all winter and the next thing I know he said let me have the car. My dad is semi-retired now so he has some free-time to play around with whatever projects he wants too mess with. He took the car and worked some of his' detailing magic on it! And the results you can see from the pictures. If you could have seen what he started with you would be even more impressed.

I even tried to pay him but he looked at me like I was an idiot or something!:) So I am taking him with me to Looseville this year and hopefully we wont tear up the town to bad and end up hand-cuffed like Dom.

You guys are funny. :D

Man this car kicked my butt last night.

I worked from 6pm to 1:30am

This is the first time I ever installed headers on my lift, and Ill NEVER do it again.
I have been so acclimated to a creeper for my whole life, that it would take months if not years to get accustomed to the hoist.

Anyway, I got the headers on with no problem. (however, I encountered a first. One exhaust gasket was actually corroded away. I have never seen this before. Lucky for Brad I stock those gaskets! )

Then I drilled a hole in the trans pan to get the fluid out in preperation of tonight's J-Mod. (dont worry Brad, Ill install a plug and you can resell it )
Then I got started on the control arms and encountered another first! The upper (rear) bolt seized onto the bushing, and never gave way. It ended up destroying the bushing, but lucky for Brad I have extra bushings :D Im bringing a huge c-clamp home from work tonight to get the bolt out. I had to leave it alone as I was getting really groggy.

Its coming together nicely
Sorry, no pics this time.

Zack
03-11-2009, 06:31 AM
And one more thing, I have never bled out from exhaust work as much as I did last night.

More progress but no pics, sorry. I just cant break my rythm, stop working, wash my hands and get the camera.(Sounds XXX )

Anyway, got the fuel pump swapped out. I humored myself and only jacked up one side of the car to see if it would come out... it did! So, without ever touching the fuel tank bolts, or disconnecting the harness above the tank (I cut the wires and put weatherproof connectors on them) I had the fuel pump asssembly out, pump swapped and back in and hooked up in 45 minutes.

'I also got the DS loop in, J-Mod done and I have one more Control arm to put on.

Tonight I will fill the trans, get the air out of the cooling system and just make sure everything is ok. The car has open headers so I cant check for noises or other abnormalities until it gets back from the exhaust shop.

On a side note, I had a bit of an unfortunate incident while in the garage.
I had my impact gun on the floor with an extension, swivel and a 12mm socket (for the DS bolts) I nudged the gun with my foot, and in doing so I hit the trigger. The gun spun the socket right off the swivel at 1000 miles an hour right into the drivers door of my Marauder. Yep, big ol' dent, the first the car has had in 7 years. On the bright side, it will come out with paintless dent repair (I think). The car need a makeover anyway after all its been through over the years.

I'M BBBBAAAACCCCCKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 3 long frickin' months -1 Bad Merc is back on the road again! Engine transplant, warranties, junk yard runs, all night wrenching, borrowing parts......etc. etc. etc, finally behind me for awhile.

I could not have done any of this without the help and support of my friends on this site.

Thank you Zack, Justbob, Takedown, Drew, O's Fan, UAW, BaadGN, Mike, Dave and all the rest of my Marauder brothers for your kind words, advice, parts borrowed and keeping my spirits up when the motor took a dump! I never even got to drive the car over 2500 rpms or dyno tuned after I put the Trilogy on which was pretty upsetting to me to say the least!

Still no word on what caused it but 3 main engine bearings and two rod bearings bit the dust on a motor with 31,000 miles on it. I think it was just driving it to the train back and forth in the first two years of it's life. The train is only a mile from my house and I dont think the car ever truly warmed up. That's one of the only things I can think of that would prematurely wear the bearings out like they were.

I am going to do some shake down cruizes here and there then hopefully start building her over again! Got some additional engine parts powder coated, change some things around and might even go with a custom painted cowl induction hood!

So Stay tuned for the next reincarnation of 1 Bad Merc!

Hey Bob,

Try raccoons and they left no seat untouched! They even managed to open the window under the seat and went down in the cabin and destroyed everything! Probably close (my estimation) to $8 to 10 thousand dollars worth of interior
damage-looks like something out of the movies.

Not sure if insurance will cover it or not. So much for starting to get ahead.

I think I am just going to tape everything up, use the crap out of the boat this year (as the dock is already rented) and then give it to an interior shop in the winter to redo. Otherwise I bet I will be waiting for 2 months for these guys to fix it (Boat guys are usually slower then regular car repair places) and I dont want to miss the summer.
