about 2/3 weeks ago I got in my car and noticed the steering was pretty stiff, not stiff like it was off, but stiffer than usual. then I went to turn on the a/c but it wouldnt work. when I looked up I noticed the compass was dead (what the?). looked in the manual and realized that fuse 16 (I believe) controls the:assist steering, climate control, compass, and reverse lights. checked the fuse, and it was blown. replased the fuse and POP it went. tried again, and as soon as i turned the key, POP blows the fuse. I even put in a higher amp fuse and still POP. finally decide to let the dealership idiots play with it. on the way I went to hit the horn and the horn beeped and died. the Next day when I called he said the car had MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS! the car had NO brake lights either. so I stoped by to see in horror, MY ENTIRE INTERIOR sitting on the roof, trunk and floor of the garage. the mechanic tells me A ***** LOAD of wires melted together. according to him the wires in my car were not wired correctly, because in the book where it said the wire was green, It was blue in my car or red, etc! finally after about a week I get the car back. apparantly there were a few "MISPINNED" wires, which they supposedly fixed and everything was working. the next day, POP, SAME *****! brought it back and demanded a loaner car (which they wouldnt give me the first time cause im not 21)! now I have there P.O.S. focus for 2 weeks (which BTW I broke already) and they cant figure out whats going wrong! I checked the harness for chaffing and there was NONE! My father called up and threatened LEMON LAW, so they are afraid to give it back unless its FULLY fixed, which is good I want it fixed.
ANY IDEA's???????????
Hershy park meet is just 3 weeks away

I brought that up, and they said Ford would not cover the replacement of an entire wiring harness. they would however cover replacement of connectors and certin wires but even that would take a while since some connectors are on back order!
even the mechanic told me SOMEONE MESSED UP BIG. he call it a 4:59pm car (rolled down the assembly line at 4:59 on a 9-5 shift while everyone was getting ready to go home)

I'd be a little suspect of the mis-pin theory. In the wiring diagram bood certain wires are in different pins for the CV with Natural gas and the MM has some extra connectors. Usually the wiring harness is checked after assembly before leaving the plant making the harness (Mexico?), to make sure it works, then it goes to the factory. A good auto electric guy should be able to look at the harness and see where the short is, or the circuit it's in. If you are not happy, call the customer service line, and maybe thye can authorize a replacement harness.

Well I am definatly not happy. and i am definatly going to make a few calls to ford. Spoke to the dealer today, they managed to fix the initial short but now I have no power windows and 2 more shorts. so the fix one and create 2 more. they told me ford wants them to stop working on it untill futher notification. What kind of BS is that. I want my car, and I want it FIXED

I made it perfectly clear I NEEDED the car for the weekend and after fighting with ford a new harness was on the way and I was assured it would be ready at the latest thursday. thursday comes I walk in just to find my car still in peices. apparently the guy woring on it hurt himself and will be out for a while, so i had to go to hershey in a focus. It was nice too see all the MMs in one place, but in a focus, I felt I DIDNT BELONG, so I didnt stick around too long. now i wont get my MM back till next weekend at least, but hopefull it will be fixed for sure!

finally got my car back yesterday. so far everything is ok, and Im so glad to be back behind the wheel with 8 cylinders at my comand. I couldnt take the focus anymore.
Turned out when my car was assembled, the wiring harness was positioned in such a way that it was litterally pancaked between the steering coulum. the old harness compleatly flattened and wires were exposed. the whole harness was replaced. hope its not one of thoose things that come up in more cars, but if you experience any wierd electrical problems tell your dealer to check that spot!
Happy Rauding

My car has started doing the same bloody thing. I change the fuse and things are fine, but everytime I put the car in reverse, it blows the fuse and my climate controls, power steering and air ride go.
You'll probably get more juice out of your post if you create a brand new thread about your problem. Most people might not scroll down once they see the original post was all the way back in 2003.
