Well, the MM is a year old , on the market place , but it still seems to most non-MM owners that it's the first day of it's debut....case in point....

Last night, took my MM out for test drive after installing Rehinhart swaybar and stopped at gas station to fill up..... rear of car is facing sun down and the station's inside cashier area----well sun is shining on bumper inserts (RED) and the next thing I hear from the gas pump microphone is....." hey you there with that Marauder......IS that a Concept Car or a Real Car?.......for a moment there I wasn't sure just what to say cause those around me heard it as well, ..so I said .." yeah ..real car " with thumbs up!!!......cashier guy inside speaks again ..." is that supercharged or something.?.....can you come in and tell me more about it??........So I did ..

After waitng in line( wanted to buy lotto ticket anyway) I tell him about the car as fast as I can cause others were in line behind me, and after a quick run down on the car, he yells out to the others in line as I walk away out into my car an Varooom off.."".heay folks,,,,you here that ..that car is some kind of special car....".....and I have to agree with him......those folks didn't have a clue either W T F is was..... and is't over a year old .....

It still amazies me how people still go nuts asking about this car everytime out......Though you'd want to hear that we really are in
A CONCEPT CAR afterall and didn't know it---maybe that is making sence , since it's not out after this year...yeah,, a concept car....Hummmmm.....well, another story for our record books ...

Even other MM owners don't know everything about the car. Yesterday I was putting gas in my Mustang when a black Marauder was getting ready to leave the station. I stopped him and told him that I had a silver MM. He said "I thought they only came in black".

I asked him if he was familar with MM.net and he wasn't. All my cards were in the MM so I told him about it and our North Carolina group so hopefully he will check in. He lives in the Lake Norman area.

The 1st MM I saw on street last fall was bought by a guy who just wanted the top-of-the-line Grand Marq, he had no idea what a MM was before he went into dealer.

Yes, this is a concept car. The concept is that an American car company can manufacture a full size, 4 door, rear wheel drive, 8 cylinder sports sedan. What a new concept! ...Oh, wait, they were all doing that back in the 60's, weren't they? Or is it just my Alzheimers kicking in again?

Ya know some might say, people still think it's a concept car because of the lack of advertisement. (here we go again!)

Someone asked Steve Babcock about this at Marauderville, he said something to this effect: We don't advertise Lightning's or Cobras either.

hmmm,.. that got me thinking. Well, he's right. They don't. But, I knew about them! Even a lot of people with only a casual interest in cars know about them.

When I went to my local F/L/M dealership looking for a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis, is when I first saw or even heard of the Marauder. I sure am glad I decided to look around the lot!:D

Don't even get me started :)

Cobras and Lightnings aren't advertised because they are low volume cars. Same as the MM. Lincon LS is advertised, Town Car isn't.

Caddilac CTS is flogged heavy, so is the Pontiac GTP. They both outsell the MM, but IMHO the MM kills them both. Outside of Blue Oval enthusiasts, no too many people even know about this car (including salesmen at the dealerships) Do they want to sell cars or not?

Guess that's why I'm just a lowly engineer, not an advertising exec.

This is what I told the Ford dealer service advisor when I brought mine in for an oil change and got the "What is this?" question.
"This is a high performance car custom built by Ford Motor Company for a select group of people". Her reply..."Oh yeah, I heard something about that".....????? Hey, got good service though...

Dr Caleb, you are right. I don't think they even plan for production of 18,000 of each Cobra and Lightning models do they?
I read they only planned to make 6,500 Mach1s

The Marauder may be Mercury's "special" product, but they should never have expected to sell 18,000 without advertising where "regular" people would see it.
