Pulled the trigger on the F1's after months and months of anguish... Nittos, Falkens, mix front / back , tire matrix....on and on and on.......

I'm out 900 Large but the look is KILLER and the ride is EXCELLENT!

Thought I would post for those in the market and on the fence......

I'm "back in the saddle" and feeling good about the purchase!

Front: 235/50R/18 XL 101Y
Rear: 255/55R/18 XL 109Y

Now off to Ebay to sell my GI Joe collection to payoff the purchase!

I saw a the Marauder with the F1's on it the other day at Pines Lincoln Mercury by my home. They looked nice. Glad to hear the ride is good. Question ! Is the ride firm or is it a softer ride ?

Just had a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 255/55ZR18s mounted on the rear of the Bluerauder. They feel good so far and look pretty good. The ride seems about the same to me; but its kinda hard to tell in just 3 miles. ;) They will get a workout on the way to Louisville next week. :D

Very nice looking tire, but a tread life of 280 and $200+ each, ouch. Isn't Doomie running these all the way around on the Blinger mobile?

I looked into purchasing a set of those for the rear, great tires. The Goodyear dealer said that he sells a number of these tires for road course drivers. No tread warranty on them because of the type of tires they are. Average tread life is about 10K with "aggressive" driving.

I have the Nittos all around, The one thing I don't like is the ride is much harder. Are the F1's a softer riding tire ?

You paid NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for a set of tires?

Dude, you got taken for a ride...

Might as well been....I apologize for any confusion my apparent mis-use of the term "large" in my previous post may have caused. To clarify, I spent $880.38 USD for the tires, which included freight charges. (USD = United States Dollar)

I would also say that the ride is "firm" yet not "hard"......

I gave these a lot of thought, price being the final factor. Best I could find was $215 for the rears. Add shipping, mounting, balancing, and it came to $250+ per tire. I couldn't justify leaving patches of $250 around the countryside.

It was a tough call, however, my decision was based on a fanatical need to maintain the rake and the same brand and style all the way around. I'm not crazy hard on the MM and I'm hoping to get a "fair" number of miles our of them. This very well may be a one time investment....

If we can hire a Lobbyist and send to Washington DC , maybe we could get a MM tire bail out??

The Audacity of Rubber?
Tire change we can believe in?
The failed tire quality of the last 8 years?
I inherited these tires?
God Bless BFG?.....GotDamn BFG!

I'm here all week...tip your waiters and waitresses!

This is Mrs. Garner can you put these all the way around? BF GOODRICH ARE GETTING HARD TO FIND IN FACT HERE IN AR. CAN'T. SO WAS THINKING ABOUT PUTTING THESE ALL THE WAY AROUND. THANKS...

As mentioned.....

Front: 235/50R/18 XL 101Y ($200.00 ea.)
Rear: 255/55R/18 XL 109Y ($218.00 ea.)

As others have said, the wear factor is a concern.... Likely not to get 30K+ miles on them...

You wouldn't think that 5.5 millimeters (less than 1/4 inch) would make that much of a difference. However, I have already had 3 people notice & comment on the "new" rake of the car already and the Goodyear's have only been on about 2 days. Even the wife commented that it looked better with the stance and the wider tires. Unusual given that she knows what I paid for them.

Hence the reason why I recommend the Nitto 420S to you Charlie because that tread life sucks a big one. Plenty of other good tires out there for cheaper, have better tread life and performance just as well.

And your tire recommendation that maintains or improves rake, is the same manufacturer and tire style in the following dimensions,
Front: 235/50/18
Rear: 255/55/18
and the tire is specifically designed and manufactured for a performance automobile application vs. a SUV and meets or exceed speed ratings is?

Drum Roll please..........

SUV tire will yield a higher load weight, stronger steel belt wave and stronger sidewalls.

I run BFG 255/55-18 kdw-2 tires on my rear but when I need to replace them I will go with the Nitto 420S.

Doom, what does it say on your rear Goodyear F1 GS-D3 255/55-18 tire? lol

SUV 4x4 right on the sidewall.

You perpetrated the classic "I made you look"... on me and I humbly stand corrected on the SUV application for the F1' (although it does not pull up as an option when you search for sport SUV tires on Tirerack.com??) That is bizarre! It does say SUV 4X4 right on the sidewall... not sure how I missed that!

Still like the combo and we'll see over the coming months what the value proposition is....

In the meantime, they match and look pretty da*m good on the MM...

Cheers!

I'm at over 20k on my set, which is more than I got out of the BFGs. You have to understand that there is no enforced standard for treadwear measurement; most manufacturers now estimate. 280 in one manufacturer may be equivalent to 400 in another. With that said, these are definitely performance tires (softer rubber), so I would say 30k is a stretch, but 10k should be easily doable unless your just wasting rubber. Also, I have had no uneven wear issues with these tires.

Performance will not be just as well; these have softer rubber and are better constructed than most. Despite the soft rubber, they dissipate heat well and will last a respectable amount of miles. Read the magazine and consumer reviews... all of them reflect that this is a top performance tire with the major competition being the Michelin PS2. And to add to that, these are the #1 rated / ranked wet performance tire on the market. The only complaint I've ever found is that people who autocross on them feel that the sidewall is slightly softer than their liking.

They're great for Summer; they are NOT Winter or even all season tires.

They are not designed specifically for an SUV, despite the marking. The tire in the 255/55R18 size was marketed this way (as suited for an SUV), as it is standard equipment on several luxury / sport SUVs, including models from Porsche, Land Rover, and Mercedes.

The OEM BFG is in the size range for a SUV/sport truck tire. Most of the tires I researched in these sizes are called sport truck tires. I've seen these F1s on Doom's car and they lookeded really nice. I didn't notice the SUV designation. I'm considering using Nitto 420s on the front when my current BFGs are finished. Just have to check to see if they will maintain the proper stagger for a 04 as they are 235/55 not 50. Blackened300 is running them and likes the package.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but my KDW II's are shot so I think I'll go with these. My goal is 20K miles.

I think the NT555's all around would be a good option, and last longer, but I'm hearing that those and the 420s's are being discontinued. I prefer having the same model all around.

If I was sure they were going to be around I'd get the NT555's 235/50-18 in front and 265/50-18 in the rears as Spectragod suggested.

One thing I'll have to check though, the tire shop told me the Goodyear 255/55-18 rears were $256 ea. and Tirerack has them right now for $217...

I got all 4 of my Nitto's for $700, mounted, balanced, installed, tax, title, shipping, handling etc. out the door. Not a smoking deal, but I had -0- hands on, while I waited. Sometimes ya gotta be lazy.... ftw. :D
