Afternoon all,

I am in the process of looking for a truck for daily driving and FUN, as well as possibly pulling a ski boat and I'd like to know anyones opinion on the Ford Lightning.

Last truck I owned was a Dodge Ram but don't think I'll go that route again.

What about the lightnings in bad weather. Will it have to be parked in the garage with my MM?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike :banana2:

If your pulling with it, may I recommend the Harley Davidson truck. It's only maginaly slower then a lightning, but holds 4, and is better suited for your needs.

Mad3R,

Won't fit in my garage.
Already thought about the HD.

Thanks,
Mike

I had a 2000 Lightning. Good truck all around. Rides good and has plenty of power. I towed my Buick T-type with the truck and had no problems. I can't really comment on bad weather as I was living in Alabama at the time. But with the right tires I have seen people drive them in snow. Just don't expect the best traction in wet weather or snow.

MY FRIEND STUDER HAS A 2000 LIGHTNING WITH 50,000 MILES , HE BOUGHT IT NEW , AND LOVES IT . (HE AND I ARE BOTH 68 YEARS OLD) GREAT PACKAGE FOR TOWING , IT WILL FLY.

Yup,

Had one too, a 99. It definately goes, and comfortably too. I live in florida so rain is for sure, and it did OK. Not the best traction fast off the line, but not that bad. Also towed a big boat without a problem (6000lbs). Overall a good truck.

The 2nd generation(03&04) Expeditions are really nice,4 wheel independent suspension, ride and handling is terrific. They fit in a garage, with 4X4 snow is fun.Drop a Kenny Belle Blowzilla on the 5.4 and you've got more than adequate power.Seats 7 to 9 adults. 5.4 4X4's can tow over 8000lbs. stock. Heated and cooled seats,DVD,Navigation system. You can haul 2000lbs with no problems(don't try that with a Lightning). Did I mention I kinda like mine,it's my second one.
AND,they've got some real nice rebates right now.

About 600# of sand in the bed and traction in the white stuff is no problems but what some L owners do is get a set of standard F150 rims with all season tires to help the truck bite on the surface. Have only driven my Lightning in a 1/2 inch snow once and as long as you don't engage the S/C its just like any other Ford truck except the rears a little to light and it takes a while for the Eagel F1's to bite but once they do you can just drive it like normal.

Actually, the 03+ L's have increased payload capacity to 1600lbs vs the 800lb limit in 99-02 L's...

I loved my 99 and my 02L... Actually, I loved the 99 more. :)

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and suggestions. Picked up my Lightning tonight. Its very, VERY fast but certainly isn't as comfortable as the MM.

Thanks again,
Mike

Comfy? You're not supposed to be comfy in a L... ;)

currently haqve a silver 02 lightning and love it, i tow a 4500 pound ski boat with it all summer and it never misses a beat, the ride is very comftorable and the gas mileager isnt bad, as for driving it in the snow, as long as the goodyears on the truck are in good condition you shouldnt have many problems, i drove mine all last winter and we had some pretty bad snow storms in wichita. As far as it being not as comftorable as the marauder i have to disagree, i am alot more comfy in my lightning thatn th rauder mainly cause it is easier for me to get out of the lightning than the marauder.Hope you enjoy your lightning cause i sure enjoy mine, what year and color is yours?
