I made these control arms at work last week. Finally got around to installing them today. They're made out of 6061 alum. I painted them semi-flat black so they weren't too flashy. If you notice, they are basically copies of the Metco's but I reused the factory rubber bushings.

Please post up a price PRONTO! (I have been thinking seriously about the Metco units, but I would rather have matte black arms!)

He painted them to conceal their bad-assness. They are CNC aluminum.

WOW!!!

David, those control arms are AWESOME!

Aluminum CNC but they utilize the OEM bushings for good compliance...great idea!
The stealth black finish is sweet too.
You trying to keep that Procharged HP on the ground ehh?

He makes them to accomodate OE bushings. I will bet my left nut that urethane OEM replacements will fit. If you sell these for about $150.00 in naked form you might make a few hundres sales. These seem like they're made out of relatively small stock - maybe found a use for your scraps? Kill us some more and show us the machining process.

WOW, thank-you guys for the compliments! i didn't expect a response like this. I haven't been able to drive the car yet to test the new control arms out. there are still a few other things i need to get done. As far as the pinion angle goes, these arms are exactly the same length as the stock ones. I don't know why changing the pinion angle would benefit the car?
Now, to everyone's dissapointment, these are going to be one of a kind custom control arms. I talked to my boss about making a short run of these and we wouldn't be able to compete with the cost of the Metcos. A mention of selling these for $150? I'm sorry but the cost of the materials alone is almost that. I would suggest buying the Metcos. Really the only difference is the bushings. The finish is just semi-flat black Krylon spray paint. If someone had a mill in their garage they could make these really easy. Unfortunately i don't, and the shop i work at does high end machine work, so our hourly rate is too high to make these arms at a price that compares to Metco.
So again, thank you for all the interest!

David

David, you are too new here to get the reference.... trust me it was a funny comment.... though sarcastic!!!

It was NOT directed to you......

If you want to do a search.... the threads may still be around!

Nice work, btw.....

Dave, do you have a written machining program you would like to share? I work at two machine shops, and my friend has a small shop. I priced the materials, in Nov. 08, and the $150 is low for material, if you had a program, I can get a shop to make them cheaper then the Metcos. The reason I didn't go through with mine is, I couldn't find bushings to use.

I wanted Metco's but $449 is a big nut to crack. They are clearcoated and have the pretty stuff. I don't care if I have raw material under the car. I was only guesstimating a price around $150 and maybe subliminally suggesting it. I have a buddy with a CNC machine shop and now I have an idea...... What would you say the price could be?

I made these arms on a 2-axis Prototrak. They use conversational programming, so i don't have an NC program i can share. I am flattered with all the interest but I won't be making anymore of these. If one of the machine shops you guys are thinking of using are willing to make these, it is a simple profile, pocket, and bore program. They would be able to whip up a program in 15 to 30 min!

I think if you shared the dimensions of the holes and center to center you used it would make it a lot easier for them to copy. Just a thought.

Good job. Was considering something similar at 1 of the shops I work with. Not worth the cost for me because I have to pay the standard hourly rates. I'm just going to go with the Metcos.Ordering them next week as my stocks are shot.

Nice work. Do what you can to help us out when it comes to dimensions and so forth.I can give you guys the center to center, and approx. hole dia. on Monday. The numbers are at work. Remember these dimentions aren't from a Ford manufacturing print, just what I measured on the stock arms.

center to center should be 10.440" , and 18.355", but when I measured the bushings they were odd sizes, so I looked for some poly bushings, but could never find a good fit.

The upper bushing is approx. 1.60" and lower 2.04". Be sure to measure your bushings and make the bores in the arms no more than .005" interference fit!
Good luck
