Howdy all -
Just got a copy of my OASIS report when I purchased my ESP.
It lists my car as a Grand Marquis. Insurance seemed to think it was a GM also when I gave them the VIN.
Anyone else's OASIS report say this?
Could this be a problem down the road if I need to file a claim or something?
Thanks,
-A

I recently changed dealers due to a complete lack of interest on the selling dealers part. When my new dealer (Ken Knapp Ford in Essex, Ontario- Great people) checked my OASIS report...same thing. I don't know how but they changed it and added some info that the selling dealer omitted.

I also received an OASIS with my ESP. And, yup, it says Grand Marquis. But my insurance company knew from the get-go that it was a Marauder and stuck me with the performance surcharge.
That was not the case when I bought a new Grand National back in '87. Took them a few years to figure out it was not a plain-vanilla Regal. But when they did, got hit with the dreaded performance surcharge. At least it wasn't retroactive. Guess some insurance co's have gotten too smart!
(And, yeah, they figured out up front that the LT1 Caprice would get the surcharge too.)

Yeah, I noticed that too when I bought mine. I think the mentality from Mercury is that the MM is a subversion of the GM (those of us MM owners know better, but...oh well. Whattya gonna do, with this corporate mentality?) I made the mistake of being too honest with the insurance company...got stuck with performance surcharge...bastages. Shoulda kept my mouth shut.

On all my paperwork from the dealer, my car is listed as "2003 Mercury Truck."
Whatever that means. :)

Guess I just got lucky. I went to my insurance agent with all the publications I could muster on the KB#1x. He took that to the main office with the question of how to insure this car properly in the event of a major loss. The answer came back that they would handle a claim the same way they handle customized RV vans. First as the base vehicle (standard MM) and then the KB refinements, with some depreciation affecting both.
I'm not sure what to expect in the event of a major loss, but at least my insurance company has the full skinny on my MM, and I can't be turned away for not disclosing it's true nature.

Yes, the 2003 Marauder was reported to the government as a "Grand Marquis Marauder" was the official model.
In 2004, It got it's own model code and is simply called a Marauder.

As for me, the only thing about having it listed as a GM is a pride thing. My ins. co gave me the rate on a GM and I ain't telling em anything different. I know what I have, you guys know what you have, and it seems we are the only ones. No perfomance surcharge here, and glad of it. Ins. companies take enough of my money as is.

I made sure my insurance folks knew the difference too, because if it ever was necessary to replace the vehicle I don't want a GM in its place.
Paying the extra cost now is the best way to ensure we get costs out of it later if we ever need to replace it. It's only a few bucks a month.
Thanks,

humm, I have State Farm. From the moment they entered the vin in the computer, they knew. Not to mention my agent walked around the car like four times and looked under the hood. But still my insurance on the Marauder is only $100 more a year than the 1998 Taurus was.
