Id like to start a 'Marauder' specific condition correlation to mileage thread.
It will be beneficial knowledge to all of us trust me! This gives us better insight to the correlation between mileage and condition specifically to our Mercury Marauders. ESPECIALLY PAINT, and leather seems to not be in the upper margins when compared to all automakers. This is also very informative to see how many miles our cars have and to see how they are doing.
Well let me get it rolling. :burnout::burnout::burnout:
Please follow this format
Year: 2003
Mileage: 57,015
Color: Black
Time/Miles of Ownership: 5 months/2,000 miles
Condition of paintjob including exterior panels: Great, no accidents or dings just unavoidable light scratches and swirls from careful washing?!!Oh and I forgot to add maybe a corrosion area from bird poop?:mad2:
Condition of Interior Panels and Leather: Front seats are GOOD show normal wear and creases but no holes or rips. Rear seats are EXCELLENT. All plastic panels are GREAT. Common area for wear and discolorations is from the Leather wrapped gear shifter and center armrest leather storage top.
Rate cars general reliability: Great so far. Poor paint quality. Heated seats illumination flickers on and off. Condensation in headlights. Mediocre A/C. Heater is once in a while acting up. LOUD COMPRESSOR NOISE:bs:

Year: 2003
Mileage: 56,xxx
Color: Black
Miles of Ownership: 19 months/20k miles
Condition of Paint and Exterior: Fair, lots of scratches and it was clear too quickly after repaint from previous owners accident, so some bursting bubbles. No rust.
Condition of interior: Paint peeling a little bit, back seat was perfect, front seats had leather loosening up a little but, and one of the baffles collapsed on the drivers seat.
Reliability: Had crank, main bearing, and oil pump replaced at 35k miles. Motor blew at 52k miles due to torqued block, 2 bent rods, and spun bearing. Motor had no mods. Trans was slipping at 56k, and rear axle seaks were going/gone at 56k. Water pump had been replaced at 54k miles.
I bought a lemon. I now know that.

Year 2003
Mileage 204921
Color Black
Time/Miles ownership 11-02, I may have not been the driver for 10 miles
Condition of Paintjob World's best looking 200K mile, never garagd daily driver. It's work but well worth the effort. I have 1 nearly un-noticeable dent, 2 chips, a few minor scratches on the trunk from my CB antenna. I have a couple marks on the front bumper where the following people hit me (I could give the dates and approx times but then you'd think I was obsessive), a) my wife, b) my newphew, and c) the fire chief's wife. I also have some clear coat cracking from getting rear-ended at a stop sign last summer.
Condition of interior and Leather Excellent (see above about effort). I still have the factory installed dent on the faux carbon fiber that was so common back in the day.
Rate car's general reliability Excellent. I hardly baby it, have had no major issues, been down the track about 500 times, and it's lost maybe .05 in the 1/4.

Year 2004
Mileage 39,221
Color Silver Birch
Time/Miles ownership Bought 10/05 with 13K miles.
Condition of Paintjob A few minor nicks present at purchase, nothing visible from 10 feet away. Deep finish and flawless clearcoat.
Condition of interior and Leather I don't touch the seats, steering wheel or carpet when I drive it. Looks new, Smells new.
Rate car's general reliability Great car but I enjoy it maybe once a month. The A/C sucks and is blown away hands-down by my '06 Taurus (temp in vent, 54 degrees vs. 38 degrees in the Taurus). The blend door actuator broke, One door lock motor failed. Both seat heater switches have occasional illumination. The seats are too soft and unsupportive. I rate the car a 9 out of 10 and never regretted buying it. I still sit in it and smile like I just bought it.

Year: 2003
Mileage: 63,500
Color: Black
Time/Miles of Ownership: 4 years/42,000 miles
Condition of paintjob including exterior panels: Excellent... I had the front bumper repainted but the car is ding and dent free except for some small rock chips on the header panel and hood. The rest of the paint is clean and flawless.
Condition of Interior Panels and Leather: Excellent.... Front seats have minor wrinkles in them and the backseat is flawless. The door panels all around are in mint shape including the switches. The center console has a few minor scratches around the cup holders. The aluminum dash panel had a few slight dents in them but being the obsessive person I am, I replaced them with mint ones.
Rate cars general reliability: Excellent..... It never let me down and whatever small issues I had were solved in no time at the dealer. I have numerous mods done to this car and it is still as reliable as the day I bought it.

nice posts keep em comin in!
edit: It's funny how 50k+miles is in the higher mileage portion FOR MARAUDERS, but is considered a low mileage car for the average driver. (my marauders only about 9k miles per year):bigcry:

Year 2003 300a
Mileage 70,850
Ownership 20 months/17k miles
Paint Typical black car(scrathes/nicks),good ole early MM paint(thin clear, clear chipping) Wavvy bumper behind rear wheels , hard water spots on entire car
Interior back seats perfect, fronts have wrinkles, some paint chipping on gauge pod & window switch
Overall I can see why they flopped, low power, unsupportive seats, slow window motors, noisy DOHC, loud rear suspension compressor, little back seat room, worst paint ive ever seen on a car from the factory, leaky headlamp assy's, HVAC doors noisy, crappy A/C, distorted rear sub. Ive replaced a belt tensioner, belt, engine at 53k, axles at 55k, trans cooler line leak at 60k, tailshaft seal that wont stop leaking but i still love the car somewhat. Looking for a replacement as we speak:D

Condition of paint job including exterior panels: Only Good, two minor scrapes that were properly repaired and blended. Two lousy paint flaws in the hood that will eventually need to be re-painted. And lousy caterpillar poop stains on the flat surfaces from camping last June.:mad2:
Condition of Interior Panels and Leather: Front seats are GOOD show normal wear and creases but no holes or rips. Rear seats are EXCELLENT. All plastic panels are GREAT.
Rate cars general reliability: Great so far. Poor paint quality. Had to replace heated seat lighted switches, the heated seat elements themselves, and the dreaded LCM all under warranty. The parking brake is broken at the moment - unacceptable failure in my mind. The air pump for the rear suspension is too loud.

Condition of paintjob including exterior panels- A few chips, scratches, just noticed damage to the lower right part of the bumper by the exhaust pipe, spider webs in paint... needs a major buff or more. Rust have been under the rubber of the windows for a few years now. Condition of Interior Panels and Leather: Just fine. Had to replace the pad in drivers seat once and will probably have to do it again soon. Leather in driver seat slightly cracked. Black mark on second low left door on sliver pannel, but I don't see it so I don't care.[/B] The car has been great, but I had to replace a few things... most were not Ford parts. The engine was changed 38,000 miles ago because I wanted it ready for a blower and originally I thought it was near blown, the dealerships know nothing! :shake: The transmission went out due to a crappy PI torque converter that ruined the car. My blower broke because of belts breaking. The only major Ford parts I ever had to replace were the A/C head unit and windshild wiper motor. I am very happy with the car and I will continue my "Roadwarrior" ways with it!

Condition of interior: Everything on the inside is in great shape, everything looks good as new and everything works.
Reliability: Only issue I ever have is if I don't drive/start it after about 1-2 months the battery will be dead (normal electrical usage?) but that only happens over the winter. Very reliable.

Year: 2003
Mileage: 105000
Color: Black
Miles of Ownership: 9 months/40K
Condition of Paint and Exterior: 10-12 hail dings. paint cracking on roof and trunk, not chipping just cracking. headlights and foglights look like they have 100K miles on them. So do the front tires. Rims are perfect.
Condition of interior: Drivers side window requires 2 hands to put back up, and then sometimes it just wont. Leather is in very good shape along with carpet. Floor mats are a little dusty. A/C has a mind of its own.
Reliability: Honestly ive never had so many things wrong with any vehicle ive ever owned. Replaced windsheild, both wiper motors, fuel pump, battery, tires like every 20K miles, power steering pump sounds like a pissed-off cat. clicking in the front end while turning or braking, glasspacks rattle on start up and at 1800rpm in any gear. power pedals sometimes just dont work. and its leaking the smallest amount of oil. and i think i have the soft axle syndrom. oh yes and my transmission shifts into 4th at like 10mph. thanks to a stock tune. and it seems to drink gas like water.
Everyday somebody asks me if its new. or if they can buy it for some rediculously little amount of money.
After reading everyone elses Reliability, i guess its not that bad.

Miles of Ownership:since 8/05 53600
Condition of Paint and Exterior: Looks good from a distance. Car was lightly damaged on left side and had both side doors, header panel, and fender replaced plus the rear 1/4 repaired before I bought it. The rear bumper cover is off of Trilogy 2. My spare wheel is the damaged one off of the left front. The paint and body work was done rather poorly and has shown to be getting worse over the years.
Condition of Interior: car was smoked in. I have replaced the lower driver seat cushion cover for the wear area but it is coming back. The rest of the interior has been fixed little by little either by warranty or a totalled CV LX in the same color for trim parts.
Reliability:The trans was O/H'd at 8k. I have replaced the usual things that go wrong like the LCM, radio, cd changer, subwoofer, window, and lock switches under warranty. The last owner rode the brake during the time she had it. I replaced rear pads at 10, the fronts at 14k along with the fluid and the 3rd brake light bulbs. My MM had the purge solenoid replaced 4 times. Other than that, I still enjoy driving it.

Reliability Been very happy with it. With a HEAVY foot it just keeps pulling!
Thoroughly enjoy the car, glad I bought it, I knew it would be unique and it has been. Still am impressed how well it maneuvers - steering & braking for such a large car. Only wishes...more low end torque from factory, 5 speed would have been awesome!

Time/Miles of ownership: orginal owner, 58 Months, 70,000 miles
Condition of paint job: mediocre, front and rear bumpers not very shiney, some blemishes on hood and roof over time. Usual parking lot scratches and two dings.
windshield really pitted by dirt/gravel trucks around this area.
Condition of Interior panels; generally OK, some wear on control panels in door and steering wheel. Panel lights out on light control panel. Didn't know they had them unitl I rode in another Marauder. Seats OK, don't have heated seats.
Rate car's general reliability; Very good, considering all my mods. Only real problems were bad EGR valve (72K miles), torn vacumn line, replaced battery after 52 months and brakes after 36K miles. Normal service. BFG rear tires wear out very quickly, fronts OK after proper alignment. BFG rear tires hard to find, year after year. Going to nitto's.

Condition of Interior Panels and Leather: Front seats are in good condition.(Normal wrinkles on driver's side seat.) Leather all intact. Rear seats are EXCELLENT. No signs of wear on shifter, steering wheel or center console. All plastic panels are EXCELLENT. Mats are dusty/dirty.
Rate cars general reliability: EXCELLENT!! Has never let me down. Minor issues are the ever popular adjustable pedal failure, blinking seat warmer lights., and tepid A/C. Nothing else has given me any grief. I don't even mind the OEM tires. It handles exceptionally well. I take those off-ramps at highway speeds with impunity. Brakes are great for a car this large. I'm still on my original rotors. Got my tune and the shift points are spot on. Still crazy in love after all these years. :lovies:

Condition of paintjob including exterior panels: Overall very nice. Much nicer than a black car with stock paint! None of the paint is original but it does not have any paint damage other than some scuffs on the front bumper cover. The paint is all glossy but needs to be detailed, I just haven't found the time to do it myself w/ a rotary. It's in excellent condition compared to anything that has been daily driven, which this car never has been.
Condition of Interior Panels and Leather: All seats are excellent including driver's seat. I only weigh 150 lbs and there is no visible wear on any of the leather. I broke the power pedals attempting to drive the car by holding my foot stationary and then applying gas and brakes using the pedal adjuster. I have minor gooey gauge from the console gauges. Never smoked in, very clean inside.
Rate cars general reliability: Haven't driven it enough to really know. I would give the build quality of this car a B minus. I am not thrilled with how ford put these cars together. I am extremely picky and notice everything. 1/2 critical speed of the driveline transmits a slight vibe into the steering and chassis that most people would not notice but it bothers me. 3rd gear has always had a driveline vibe at all speed that is internal to the trans and barely noticeable but also bothers me and at some point I will replace the transmission because of it. I have replaced rear gears 3 times in search of total silence but 55-58 65-68 and 75-78 mph produce slight whine (even w/ the original gearset) that the gargantuan 3.5" driveshaft transmits to the cabin. Anyone with an exhaust wouldn't hear it but I have great hearing and I do.

Won't trade or sell either MM unless I am FORCED to when I retire due to lack of garage space. Need a 3-car garage in retirement. Long story short: all 3 cars (incl. Vette) are keepers, like my wife of 40 years!!!!

($13,000) Second owner. Orginal owner 65 yrs old.
CONDITION OF PAINT: Minor rock chips around headlights & front bumper. Shows age but looks new after a good polish.
INTERIOR: No signs of age. Seats look new. Use leather conditioner once a week where needed. Headliner, doors & dash....no issues.
RELIABILITY: Its an every day driver and enjoy every minute of it.
Only issue was the rear driverside barring was shot, so I had both rear barrings replaced, had installed new rear axl (pitting from barring) & front / rear breaks replaced shortly after I purchased it.
