All,

Today, while changing my oil, I noticed my KDW-2's in front were worn VERY badly in front inside - only the very inner edge. Looks like I need an alignment, and killed thos tires probably 10k too soon... :( oh well.

Anyway, I'm thinking of going Nitto NT555's this time around, as I believe they are a superior tire.

Question is, if I don't want ot get my rear rims widened for the 295's, what do you think about running 265/50/18's?

This tire size will make my speedo reading of 60 actually 59.6 MPH, so it's VERY close.

I'm not sure if anyone has tried a 265-50-18 tire...

I may get the 2 front NT555's and let my rear KDW-2 sit for a few months, and then get the Nittos either widened or these 265's later on this year.

I want to end up with 4 matched tires in terms of brand and tread type, so the front choice needs to be a good choice down the road, and I'm not sure I can committ to widened wheels.

I may have answered my own question - Nittos website confirms they approve a 7.5" rim for these tires in that size.

Also, the overall width increase over 255 size tires is about .6"

Also for those who don't like the 255/55 height these are ever so slightly shorter.

I'm gonna check out the 404's but if they don't offer anything better, I will go NT555, tried and true on the MM.

Right now:

$147 for fronts and $202 for rears

I really don't agree with the same tread pattern front, and rear, due to the fact that they do different jobs.

Do a search for "Carfixers allignment specs" and do your next fronts a favor.

That's fine but they also would look different.

Yeah I meant to get it done last time, and didn't. Then I was gonna take it in, and forgot.

I still have them printed out from years ago yet not done yet.

This time I will - I just ordered two tires and this gets costly when a 1cm width of them wears out 10k faster than the rest of the tire.

I have had a full set of nitto 555's on the car,

made the car feel like a lead sled, when they were new in the first 50% of the tire everything was great....second 50% of the tire was not the same, very hard and I could spin the tires any time (295/45 on widdened rims)

I switched over to the nitto 404 285/50 on the rear, they are very sticky, and will leave a nice burnout mark that lasts months

nitto 555s will just leave dust that blows away in the wind.....

265/50/18 is the closest to our factory size.

I plan on running these when a get a bit more cash saved up. I went with the 420's for now. So far so good. But when I put the FR500's on 265's should be nice and square with a 9" wheel. An 8 they will be OK. I run a 275 on an 8" cobra wheel on my foxbody with Nitto's.

merc, yeah you'll see 'em I'm sure. My rears are getting close so I'm gonna order those, most sites are backordered a few days so it will be a few weeks for the rears.

I know this is a debate, and others run 295's fine on the stock rim, but I'm just not comfortable with that, especially with a heavy car in a tight cornering situation. Too many variables.

I don't recall seeing the 265 option before I dunno if this is a new size for Nitto or not. At anyrate, when done, I'll let you all know how they are and will provide some pics.

Nitto is the only company that makes a 265/50/18 tire. Trust me I've looked.

255/45/18 front 265/50/18 rear. PERFECT. Just...didn't have the cash...

Watch yourself in the rain in the second half of the 555's life. Front's will hold. Rears will get slippery.

I SWEAR on the 420s rear and 555 front combo. I could NOT unsettle the car till it was blown...

= not safe !!!!!

Hey magindat, Why aren't they safe? Hancook lists the 295-45 18 as an alternate tire size. I like them because they are the same overall height [no speedo change] but 1.5 inches wider. I just have to be sure that there will be no clearance to fender issues - I have to order some right away.
Thanks, Frank

295 is too wide for a 7.5" rim.

Well I'd love to tell you my thoughts on these nitto tires but sorry - not yet. I haven't received my fronts YET! Nitto is on backorder. Worse yet, the place that was screwing me around kept the ones I ordered and cancelled - so when I went to Discount Tire, they had to wait for Nitto to get 1 more in. LOL! But, atleast I'm getting them from a place treating me better and $75 cheaper.

My MM is sitting in the meantime, cords showing on the inners of my KDW-2's, they will not be making any more trips...

So I wait for my nittos - hopefully will have them on this week! :)

Consolation is a just got a clutch put in my old Mustang, so I'm breaking it in commuting in it. Nothing like stop and go on a new and still stiff clutch. But I rolled 207,000 miles on it today.

Still miss the MM ready for my new tires!

I checked hancooks site, the recomend a 9" rim for the 295-45 18's. I did receive them today and mounted them on my 8" rims. They do bulge on the sides a bit. I'll try them. I can go back to the OEM size if I have to. Where do you guys get those wheels widend? Must be costly.
