Started up the Marauder to head home after work yesterday and felt some hesitation with the throttle while leaving the parking lot (weather 68 degrees). On the 7 mile drive home it had no other issues. Only way I can describe the action is, it was similar to an older carbureted engine, on a cold morning that hasn’t been warmed up and trying to accelerate out of the driveway. This is the 2nd time is has happened within the past month….

It has 46k miles (had it since 32k). I only use Premium Fuel (91 octane) & I never drive it on an empty tank. Fill up with gas when the gas gets to ¼ tank.

Is it the fuel filter??

To me, it sounds like more of an electrical problem. A bad "cop" perhaps.

Coil on plug. They sit on top of each individual spark plug.

These can go bad and cause stumbling under acceleration.

Coil ON Plug. Adapts to the spark plug

Do you have any recommendations on any brand that I can purchase to fix this??

Assuming this is your problem, I'd stick with Motorcraft.

Just a thought...

It is common place for our cars to have a slight surge at idle during cold start ups...

This is simply the ECM varying the A/f ratio, timming, and other things to try to get the engine up to temp...

Let the engine warm up for a few (@30) seconds before putting it in gear, and your issue should be gone...

Good Luck...

As others said above, it could be a COP, or it could be a small vacuum leak or any one of a half-dozen other things, but if you have 46,xxx on the car, it sould be wise to change the fuel filter anyroad. Ideally it should be done at 30,000 miles. OEM Motorcraft, WIX, or NAPA Gold would all be good choices. Avoid FRAM.

'jack, I've had 2 bad experiences with FRAM fuel filters...

First was on my sister's Taurus...after less than a year and 10,000 miles it had rusted so heavily that it began to leak. Fortunately it was discovered before her car burned down. The second instance was on my winter beater. Same circumstances except that I caught it before it began to leak, but it was also covered with heavy scaly rust. I will never buy or use another FRAM fuel filter.

Never thought about one rusting out from the OUTSIDE even though I live on the SC coast!!:shake:

I have used them for years and they have never had any rust on them and seem to catch a lot of junk!!

I have a Dodge Ram 1500 and called the dealer since I couldn't find the fuel filter.....THERE AIN'T ONE......all Dodge uses is the in tank sock on the pump!!! They rarely have problems according to the service manager!!

Makes you wonder if WE really need anything other than the "sock"??:help:
