I am devastated. :depress:

I left my D80 unattended on a small tripod while adjusting remote flashes today and it fell.

It fell about 5' onto a hardwood floor lens face first.
My Nikkor 18-200 VR lens is toast. The motor is locked up. The face ring is damaged, and the UV filter was shattered.

I just sent it off to Nikon for an estimate.

Damnit if I don't have a game to shoot tomorrow and a birthday on Sunday!

The D80 seems to be working fine, but my backup lenses are going to be a real challenge for the shoots I have scheduled.

I have a 11-16 f2.8, a 50mm f1.8, and a 90mm f2.8.

I guess its the 90 macro for a hockey game LOL wtf!
And a fast 50 for the party... Shameless....

Going to go drown my sorrow now.:stupid:

Was that a Nikkor 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 ED-IF AF-S VR DX Autofocus Lens?

You might be able to rent a lens at one of the pro shops in your area. I know Penn Camera in my area rents.

Barry, find a local shop that will let you rent another lens, if you really have things you need to shoot.

That does suck, and I feel bad for you. I hope it's not a major deal to get it fixed.

Yeah...the 18-200 f5.6 VR
Our local store doesn't rent that one.
I tried to rent a similar lens today. It is far nicer than the one I used. Not just price, but extremely fast. The Nikkor 70-200 f2.8
Mine retailed at $700, the rental is like $1900! I really like it, but being such fast glass it is physically 6" longer than my 5" lens. Not normally an issue, but security won't let me bring a lens that long into the arena (even though it is the same 200mm focal length as my slower 200mm). The rental was only $60 for the day...but useless if I cannot get it in.

I can use my little 50mm for Gage's party Sunday.

It just sucks I dropped it.
We'll have to just wait to see the repair price vs replacement.
I need that lens in my sack.:(

Ouch, I think it is one of those "not if", but "when" it happens. Sorry to hear about the carnage .

I forgot to update this thread last week.

My lens came back from Nikon last week fully repaired.
The beauty part...it was repaired under its 5 yr warranty no charge!

I am very happy needless to say.
And I will NEVER leave her unattended again.
Lession learned.

Glad you got it fixed Barry.

Five year warranty???? That's more than my cars had. I don't think Canon lets you have more than 1 year on anything. I guess it's good for you that it was a Nikon.

So, now we should start seeing some pics. . . . right? :)

I am not a photog by any means but the only 35mm I dropped was a Canon TL. It fell down a flight of wood stairs. It survived and I still have it. That thing weighed about 8 pounds.

Nice to know Nikon follows through. My choice since 1977.

Tamron has a 6yr waqrranty on all the lens' I recently purchased!

Normally I can't afford Nikkor products.

I did however pickup one of those Nikkor 50mm f1.8 before they were all gone.
$120??? WTF? Can't beat that with a stick!
