When replacing the thermostat, the o ring goes in the thermostat housing before or after the thermostat. To further clarify, the section of the housing conected just to the lower raditor hose is detached from the upper part, thermostat is inserted into the upper part of the housing, then the oring is installed on the thermostat. Is this the correct method? thanks guys!

When you take it apart you'll see how it goes.

Yea I took it apart about 2 months ago replaced the thermostat, the thermostat was defective. Now I have to replace it again but I forgot the procedure. You would think the $100+ repair manual would be clear about the instalation procedure.

I replaced mine last month and posted the same ? So when I pick up the new thermostat at my local dealer the diagram the service guy showed me had the o-ring on top of the thermostat. But when I took the old thermostat and o-ring out, it was just the oppsite. So I put the new thermostat and o-ring back in just like the old one came out. To make a long story short I scheduled a appointment at my local dealer to verify that it was installed correctly which is o-ring then thermostat. And much to my surprise they didnt even charge me for taking it apart, I personal think it was due to the recently installed Trilogy Kit because the tech who did the work drove the car out to customer pick up area and told me what a bad ***! car I had.
