I hate to change a good thing but in the last year i have carded at minimum 12-13 cars, and not ONE has joined up here! I mean really, could it be they think that it is just a certification of ownership site or what? No interest? No internet access? Maybe i'll start leaving more info on the next ones and try to hook em and reel them in, Local car shows, drag meet dates???? I need to try something. It almost doesn't seem worth it if they never respond. How many have had good luck carding?

My experience was being carded (by Big Dog Jim) while parked at a restaurant one evening. It was the Get Out of Jail Free card, as I recall. I don't think I really understood what it ment at the time. It took me a couple of years later to hook up with this crazy crowd.:D Of course had I met Mr. Jim in person, I would have joined instantly!;) Bob, you may be on to something. We may need a new approach/new card? Something offering more specific information about how and why to join up. Something that grabs peoples attention! JMHO

Same for me - I gave up. Seems the 22,583 members we DO get don't seem to have a, uh, Marauder.

You would probably get their attention with some 'hooks' like:

Nice Marauder!
You have a beautiful and rare car.

Hoping that it was a little faster?
Looking for new tires or having trouble finding the OEM tires?
Wish that it didn't have that bog in 2nd gear?
Tired of the annoying shift into overdrive at slow speeds?

Check out MM.net to see what other fellow owners have done with their Marauders.
Lots of great information and great people on the website!

Don't get me wrong this was a fantastic idea and thanks to the one that thought it up. But maybe just queeze in some additional info on:

Do you want to know what number your car is out of a total of 11,052 units?
Or, Join today for knowledge of upcoming events involving the MM.

???? I don't know, it seems to me that most current owners have zero clue on the rarity that they own and i bet i'd see some much cleaner MM's cruizing around if they had a clue. The last couple i saw hurt me to see. Perhaps they just haven't been cleaned up after the long winter? One would only hope.

Or how about:
1.) Why weren't you in Kentucky, mother****er!!
2.) Your ass better be on the track at Indy, *******!!
Lol, sorry, couldn't resist. I know they will get edited :D

That's a great idea maybe put "Your Marauder is one of only 11,052 made - want to be part of something even more special? Visit....."

I had a member mail me cards...I have about 5 left...ONE guy I gave a card to signed up...Louis...and ONE guy tried to sign up...Antwan. All my other cards were handed out in vain. Yea its a new day...a new era of owners...maybe it is time to update the cards. "Get out of jail free" sometimes is NEEDED when driving a Marauder.

Maybe we can have a contest for card ideas? Sounds like fun to me!

BTW what happened to the T-shirt design?

I,too, have given out dozens of the cards and not one person responded.

The original cards were designed and supplied by a now-inactive member (Slowpoke) way back in the beginning. I think it's about time to get them updated and having a contest to design them is a great idea.

Like Bob, I have carded lots of folks with MMs over the past 5 years and haven't had too much success. I have even spoken to other MM owners and have given them a card and a recommendation to visit the site. Again only with limited success. Seems that I do much better in referring folks over here from MM.Org.

Maybe a new & updated card with a "hook" to it will bump up the odds. But I really don't think that it will be a drastic improvement.

Years ago when all this started, MMers were known as the 2 percenters. IMHO, that pretty much sums it up. Those of us who are here have a fairly unique combination of personality traits that brought us here. The information, atmosphere and friendships made over the months and the years keep us here. For example:

1. We all independently found a reason to buy a Marauder (or another Panther vehicle or want one so badly that we are content to hang with folks of similar taste in vehicles).

2. Many of us went on an Internet search trying to find out more about a car that we considered so special that there must be others.

3. Some of us found the MM.Net right away. Others were referred here from other sites. Many took weeks, months or even years to find MM.Net.

4. All of us are pretty computer savvy and are very comfortable in using and communicating with this medium.

5. Most of us are fairly out-going and are not afraid to meet with other owners. I'll admit that I was a little reluctant to "engage" initially -- but taking the first step to attend that first meet was a real eye opener.

6. Those of us who "hang" here likely see this as a hobby and as participation in a car club and social group at the same time.

7. Everyone here is passionate about his/her Marauder (GM or CV too) and wants to learn everything about the vehicle as possible.

8. We came here and stay here for the information -- about power, about mods, about tires, about nearly everything in the MM book.

Not everyone sees the Marauder as we do. Not every owner is as passionate as we are. Not everyone is comfortable on an Internet forum. Not everyone is prone to meet up with complete strangers because of a forum notice or invite. Not everyone has easy and constant access to a computer.

My gut feel is that most/many members actively sought out the site (80%). Another 13% were referred from other sites. About 5% stumbled on it by complete accident and possibly 2% came from being carded.

Again, a new and improved version of the MM.Net card may work -- but only if you happen to hand it to someone with traits 1-8 above. Otherwise it'll just be another business card that gets mislaid or misplaced.

JMHO.

Maybe;

You've officially been spotted by "insert screen name" of MM.net!
Did you know you are piloting a 1 in only 11,052 made vehicle!
Please come visit us at MM.net and meet others with your same interest.

Very well put Charlie. I myself came here for info since i bought her back in '04. I guess that i was just kinda "clueless" as to the fact that there is actually a community here and i always felt it was just kind of a question and answer place.

If i could only travel back in time.

Kinda long winded, more to follow.I like this idea. It puts an actual person into the picture and might inspire enough curiosity to check out the forum. I do agree with Charlie's analysis, but I think it's well worth doing something to raise people's awareness about their Marauder. If it causes even a few to value and protect the car, it's worth it.

I made a set of cards for the POTP meet we are doing in July. Google Docs has a free "business card" wizard where you can make your own.

My cards have the back of a black CV Sport, with the dates of the meet, a brief outline of what we're doing, and what a "Panther" actually is.

When we are done tagging for the meet, I am gonna change the message to reflect a more general message, you know, "come cruise with us" or something. There are a bunch of people in our group who are not online, so the website is kinda useless...but they are into hanging out, so leaving a name and phone number would be beneficial for these types. I will probably put CVN and MMN both on there, you know "for more information check these sites out".

Figured any personal message could be written on the back in pen.

I just tagged a Michigan Blue CVPI a couple days ago, we'll see if it works.

There's a young hispanic kid in town here. His has a huge dent in the right rear quarter, bald tires, and the interior is trashed, with a torn drivers seat and something got dumped on the original floor mat on the passenger side. Looks like it's never been washed, the side is keyed and one of the mirrors is busted. Makes me ill to look at it.

I stopped and talked to him in a parking lot, and to him it's just a "Grand Marquis" he picked up somewhere and it's an around town car. I tried to talk to him about the drive train, etc., and he just shrugged. As far as he's concerned it's just the SOHC engine all the GM's have that he's seen around, and he treats it like a pig.

Wish I had the $ to buy it from him. He needs a Ford Taurus with 200K on it...
