Hi Dave,

Is that a test & tune day? I'd love to go, but it's Easter weekend.

Thanks,
Curt

Let me know when you are going again. I'd love to see what mine will do in the 1320. I've almost got slicks now. The centers are gone and the edges are just about there. Question. If you have treaded tires, do you have to have a certain amount of tread?

Dave Johnson

I think treaded tires must have a minimum of 1/16-inch (1.6 mm) tread depth. I don't have a NHRA rule book with me but I thing thats right.
Depending on how things go Saturday, I mite go April 25. If I do I will let you know.

Do I understand that it's a $69.00 fee to race on test and tune session at Rock Falls?

WOW!

At the closest track to me, 130 miles, Pine Valley raceway park, it's $20.00. Same fee for all the other tracks around here before they closed up.

Maybe the $20.00 fee was too little?

I'm keeping this a secret, otherwise I may find a $69.00 fee posted on the Pine Valley gate.

There is basically 3 drag strips in our area. Rock Falls, WI is about 2 hours NE of us in Western WI, Brainerd is about 2-1/2 hours north of the Twin Cites and Cedar Falls, IA is about 3 hours south. I think that's why the prices are so high in our area.

Got Diesel?

I've had my mustang at both Rock Falls and Cedar falls in Iowa, and IMO Cedar Falls is vastly superior to Rock. They (Rock) only appear to prep the first 60' at so the moment that you get beyond that point with HP, you loose traction.

I have and will boycott Rock for many reasons, price, track preparedness, and upkeep of the track during a day. I brought my Yamaha R1 there and discovered sand on the starting line.

my $.02, Cedar is well worth the drive ($20.00 to run)

I could and have gone all day on this subject, I will stop there.

I wish there was a strip closer to the Twin Cities. And a road course like Brainerd just for Jeremy (jdando). Many years ago there was Northstar Drags in Anoka, I think. We could hear the cars from our house in Coon Rapids.

Yeah, $69 sounds steep. The track in AZ was $20 or $25 to run all day. I was tempted to take the Charger down the strip :)

Hey dave sorry about the track ordeal today, it sucks when stuff breaks, hope you get the marauder up and running soon and make sure to build it to the hills and add some more boost :)

Dave, Sorry to hear about the engine failure. That's one thing I worry about. Driving several hours to a track then have something break. Costly tow home along with the cost of the repairs.

He had it on a trailer when he brought it to the track, so at least he didnt have to deal with that hassle if he had driven there and had to leave it and go get a trailer etc.

My junk has a pinion bearing on the howl. I'm looking at a new carrier too, cause the pin is real sloppy the tech, said the hole in the carrier housing is probably worn too.
So even new internals would not get me up to standards.
I'm looking at the Ford Racing cataloge for the carrier and if the HD clutches & spring are not used , I'll try and reuse them from my unit .
Those I had done not that long ago.

Hi all,

Pulled the motor out on Saturday. Don't know what I'm going to put back in. The 5.3 stroker I was going to go with sold and don't know if I want spend the money to have one built. I mite go with 4.6L 4V S/C Aluminator long block crate engine, if there is an issue with my heads. If the heads are ok, thinking about a 5.0L stroker with all the goodies. Along with rebuilding the heads. Any thoughts/suggestions???????? Thanks for the help at the track.........

I just relocated up to Fargo ND from Texas and was lucky enough to find a small 1/4 mile track in Moorhead (Interstate Dragway) about 15 minutes from here. Went there this weekend for a Ford car show and fun run and got in like 8 or 9 passes. Met some great folks there and hope to get back there quite often.

My runs were all around 14.5 with a best speed thru the traps at 98 MPH. I will post them when I find them. I 've only been up this way for 2 weeks and haven't spotted any other Marauders as of yet. The entry, car show and unlimited runs on the tracks was $45. They have test and tunes on what looks like every other Friday from 2:30 until 9 PM for $40. If anyone is interested in meeting up, please let me know.
