So story goes...my baby has been resting since October. She will be getting insured next week so I can get the 4.10's put in..Only question I have is shoudl I delete the rear cats? I love the sound of the car but it's not loud enough for me..will removing the rear cats make it louder or change the tone? Not doing this for the .5hp gain doing it for sound..here the sound now..Flomaster res delete tips

input please..I really do want it louder but I don't want the magna flow raspy sound.

What does this do to emissions? I live in MA and they are pretty strict here about emissions. Would I be able to get away with this up here?

From my understanding removing the rear cats will not effect emissions.

removing the rear two cats will add a lot of definition to the sound, especially with some sort of performance muffler. Of course, removing all four will amplify the sound and effect even more of course... but then you have to fool around with getting emissions going and making sure your computer ignores the second O2 sensors to not through a check-engine light, etc.
I'm not sure it'd really be very worth it for you if you still have stock mufflers, but I can't say it from experience, I don't know many people who've taken off cats but kept the stock mufflers.

I'd say do it Justin. I got in on the SW group buy and have long tubes, high flow cats, super 44's and delete tips. Its about as loud as I ever want to go. Hows your daughter doing? Emma will be 8 months next week.

I did, DO EEEEEEEITT!!!!
It gives the car a great sound thats no were near "loud" I use my car for business to haul clients around and never have an issue of not being able to hear them or any excessive noise.

shouldnt bother emmisions most testing is done through the obd2 port now. and since they are down stream of the o2 sensors the car wont even know there gone.

I had my first 2 cats gutted and the second set deleted with stock mufflers at first and it sounded pretty good of course when I put the flowmaster mufflers on it got a lot louder.

I'd replace the front cats with hi flow ones and delete the rears. Do they test you emissions tests test the exhaust ie. probe in the tail pipe? If not you can gut the front OEM cats and delete the rears. If the techs check under the car they will see 2 cats. Most techs have no idea that the MM came with 4 cats. You will see a slight increase in HP, TQ and mileage due to less restriction. The only problem is you will mostly hear the exhaust banging around in the gutted cats.

Delete the rear CATS. I run two CATS into OEM mufflers, tailpipes and tips. The sound is not loud, but louder then stock and more rumbley at idle.

YES DO IT!!! Car will sound better
No problems with emissions

Any guesses on what a shop would charge for this?
lincolnpimp
04-15-2009, 06:29 PM
A "shop" shouldn't do it.. As a shop owner I know the fine for getting caught doing this is $50,000 to the shop and $12,000 to the tech!!!!!
As a Marauder owner, this is the first freakin thing I did to the car. The on board computer has no idea they are missing because only the front cats are monitored. And you will pass emissions in 50 states, because all states have gone to OBDII testing only, which simply reads your computer.... so chop away!!!!
A shop that is not worried about fines should charge around 50-100. But keep in mind the scrap value on those cats are around 40-50 EACH! So get them back and scrap them yourself and you just made your money back.

Mine cost $30.00 to have cut off plus they added a bung hole for my Wideband at no charge. They did a crap job, but its only temporary and doesn't leak.

I say go for it!!! i love the sound, on a scale from 1-10 before even with the flowmasters the car was at about a 4 or a 5 (a 2 before flowmaster super 40s), but now that i deleted the second set of cats (and upgraded the H-pipe) it's at about a 7!!! and i love the sound you will too, no check engine light or anything, you'll be fine at emissions the crank up is a lot stronger and the throttle is more responsive. GO FOR IT!!!!

So if you delete the rear and replace the fronts with high flow would you get a code or should you be ok?
ctrlraven
04-22-2009, 11:39 AM
Should be ok, as long as the the front O2 sensors are in bungs in the down tube. As far as the rear ones if you have a stock tune then they need to be hooked up, if you have a aftermarket tune they can be left un plugged since most aftermarket tunes turn them off.

Same here. I love the sound and no drone. I spent the money for mufflers on some extra wheels.:D
