View Full Version : Will Disconnecting Battery Erase Tune?

I'm going out to remove the afro of acid all over my positive battery post and then thought I might erase my tune.

Will there be any adverse affects caused by removing my battery?

Thanks in advance...and Happy Easter! ;)

No.
But if left long enough, it will clear codes and make your computer rethink itself... or re-learn if you will.... that can be a good thing.

Cool. Thanks. Just making sure. I'll be flashing the Zack tranny tune in soon so relearning is going to happen again anyhow.

I just noticed I've lost a few of those cheesy lug nut caps/covers after some aggressive driving...can these still be sourced or do I need to buy real lug nuts?

Get real ones, they are 1/2 x 20.

I finally just did this after years of fighting them darn things!

Or you can get these (enough for every stud on every wheel in each set):

I got the Gorillas. But I got the set with 24 and used the extra 4 on my other car. Installed the extra 4 after I got the extra sockets. Figured it was a good idea to have all of the wheel locks on my vehicles use the same sockets.

I always spray down my terminals with Permatex Battery Protector & Sealer when I replace a battery. It keeps the "fros" off. ;)

Adaptive learning is turned off in SC tunes and probly turned off in most others as well.

You blew my smart comment:
"Yes, you must buy a new tune each time you disconnect your battery"

I pour hot water from a kettle over the terminals to get rid of the funk. No need to disconnect 'em that way.

Yes, but I want to keep the 'fro from comin' back! ;)

I have the ultimate terminal grease...I just rebuilt 320 Stainless battery terminal connections today on a UPS System...my fingers are too raw to try the car battery just yet! :(

Thanks to all for input.

Pour coke on it until the fro is gone. Rinse with water. Grease it. Done. Seriously.

Disconnect the battery terminals (negative first - no sparks), make a paste of baking soda and water, coat the battery terminals and cable clamps and let it sit until it stops foaming. Reapply if needed. Rinse everything well with clean water. Dry any water left on the top of the battery and terminals. Clean the battery posts and inside the terminals until they are nice and shiny. Hook the terminals back up, connecting the negative one last (again - no sparks). You can put a thin coat of grease or some commercial spray on the terminals. I do this at least once a year. Also a good time to check the cleanliness/tightness of the other end of the cables.
