View Full Version : Custom GPS mount options?
I'm finally joining the 21-century community and am acquiring a GPS unit for the vehicle---a modest Garmin Nuvi 660. I want a great mounting set up.
I think suction-cup mounting the unit is great for visibility but not that great for safe driving...and probably too inviting to the rare but determined car-thief-----even if you pull the whole she-bang off the window every time you park there is the telltale round mark left on the windshield to announce to anyone over the age of 12 that you're running a GPS. The bean-bag set up is out of the question for me.
Anyone running a custom mount for a Nuvi-type GPS from the dash? Please share photos and specs.

I would think that one of the cigarette lighter mounts would be a pretty clean setup. Here's a link to the Mobi (http://www.getmobi.com/Lighter_Mount.html) one.
I don't personally use a GPS mount per-se because I bought one of those AVIC-F90BT units from John Kuhn.

I don't have my Sirius on the windshield anymore either as I control it through the head unit now.

I have my Garmin Nuvi 750 hard mounted to the floor.
I Personally love it down low by the shifter.

Stuck mine on the speedometer/gauge cluster lens!!
It's great to see it right-smack in the middle.........but isn't it a problem not seeing the speedo???
I like the Mobi units.
Thanks for the good ideas.

Check out the Panavise 75125-195. I used this with my GPS until I installed the in-dash unit. Mine is for sale.... the first $25.00 takes it (free shipping).

I have the same GPS unit and I love it. I use one of the sand bag style mounts. I just put it up on the dash when I need it and take it down when I don't. It stays in place very well - doesn't slide around. There's just enough surface area on the MM dash for this type of mount to work. I don't like using the suction cup mount. Let me know if you need more info.

No complaints from me. It's worked great and I've had several inquiries regarding installation. I always direct them to buy from you because I appreciate having a great vendor like you on the forum. The post above just further proves it.
Great job John!
