In a few of the threads and also in a few ppl's signatures i notice "4:10" alot...... May i ask what are 4:10's?......

And this one is for anyone who ordered the mach 1 chin spoiler from innovative interceptors.. Is states u need to let it sit in the sun for a few hours to straighten the part out.... How does it look afterwards?.... Is it warped in anyway?

4:10 gears (rear) can get you off the line (and suck up gas) a little quicker. They're lower gears. The standard gears are 3 ??somethings.:)

If you plan to race your car, you probably want to switch to 4:10's. Otherwise you prolly won't need them.

Stock gears are 3.55... Switching to 4.10's gets you a little better response

The numbers indicate the ratio. 4.1 revolutions of the driveshaft for every turn of the axle would be 4:10. Stock is 3:55. The higher gears add about 500RPM at freeway speeds. The Marauder should have come with them from the factory - it makes better throttle response and launches the car like a rocket off the line. The 3:55's were used for better fuel mileage ratings.

Like was said, 4.10's are the upgrade gear for your stock 3.55 gears in the rear. I didnt notice any big drop in gas mileage but it feels like the perfect gear for the car.
I have a mach1 chin spoiler that was shipped folded and all I did was take it out the box and install. Start with securing the middle and then fold out the sides. It takes shape and has no fold or creases. You can also use a heatgun lightly to smooth out any small bends.

Appreciate the info you guys haven given me

do the 4:10's change gas mileage by much..... a drastic change?
for an everyday driving car would it be economical to change the gears?

We had a member that went with 4.56 gears and Im pondering 4.30's. 4.10s are the ratio that the car should have came with from the factory. You will need a tune once you do the gears to make sure the speedo and trans will work properly with the new gears.

I made my gear change shortly before adding the S/C so I don't have enough data to be definitive. However, what little I saw led me to believe that around town there is essentially no change or 4.10s might be better. Simply put you need less gas to get the beast rolling with the help of the gears and the trans will shift to the next higher gear sooner etc.

On the highway you will see about 1-2 MPG drop.

If you plan to go to a S/C and racing isn't your thing I would suggest that a gear change isn't really required. Even with 3.55s the car will hustle just fine when it's boosted. However, if you want to maximize your hustle then yes, go with the 4.10s. Common phrase across the 4.6l community (Cobra, Mustang, Mach1, Marauder) has always been "Don't fear the gear!" The mod motor likes them.

Oh.. if you want to do an intermediate step you could go to 3.73s, however, I am not sure you will feel enough performance difference to justify the purchase/installation cost.

Finally, I am pretty sure the dealer can make the necessary adjustments to the computer (speedo/trans) to accomodate the 4.10s. I don't think you HAVE to have a custom tune. However a custom tune WILL completely change the driving experience. You pick up some ponies, the trans will shift firmer etc. The car just seems to go from being a stable nag to a spirited mount just with the custom tune. (doesn't get a LOT faster but sure feels better)

4.30 gears in my car with a 28 inch tall tire at 72MPH is 2400 RPM.

At highway cruising speed, I normally run at about 2,000 RPM (70-75 MPH) with 3.55 stock gears. Here's about how it should fall out .....

For 4.10 gears -- 4.10/3.55 = 1.155 (a 15.5% increase in RPM) or about 2310 RPM.

For 4.30 gears -- 4.30/3.55 = 1.211 (a 21.1% increase in RPM) or about 2422 RPM.

For 4.56 gears -- 4.56/3.55 = 1.285 (a 28.5% increase in RPM) or about 2569 RPM.
