i finally decided to install a K & N cold air intake and it hits the hoodliner! In fact it's starting to put a hole in it. I hope it doesn't ding the hood. Really makes me mad since i'm so picky about the condition of my Marauder. I've tried re-positioning it several times but i guess i'll try again. Any other suggestion?
Thanks!

Make sure your headliner is flush up against the hood
So much for K&N perfect fitment! :P

I've heard problems from guys about the JLT rubbing, but never the K&N.
Funny thing is I have the JLT and it doesn't seem to be rubbing at all last time I checked. :P

Try bending down the stanchion support that attaches to the CAI and the engine ...

My K&N fits fine. Do you have an intake spacer? Maybe the screws are pointed up on the hose clamp?

Hey,
Just checked mine. I have the K+N Kit for the Marauder and the heat sheild rubs against my hood liner. My filter is all the way down as far as it can go in the engine bay.

I just spoke with my local FLM service manager about my warranty and after-market additions possibly voiding it.
He said it would be OK to do the K&N CAI, but he has heard and seen instances where particles from the filter and excess filter oil have ruined the MAF sensor, at the customer's expense, not covered under the warranty. He stated there is a "wire" in the sensor that heats-up and he has seen filter particles and excess filter oil damage or burn on the wire, subsequently causing the MAF to fail prematurely.
He also stated that FLM dealers cannot "legally" perform a 4.10 gear swap due to the computer recalibration and necessary changes, i.e. speedometer correction.
This may be just one service manager's views or actually the facts, what do you think?

Ford made a revision on the hood liner material and the plastic plugs that secure the liner.
The better option for us that Mess with stuff, (CAI & Spacers)is to have the thinner liner with the plugs that hold it tighter.

I asked my service writer dude about this subject a while back. He stated that they are pretty OK with anything short of a supercharger. it probably depends on the dealership. I just purchased more ESP to cover both MMs for a while longer - the contracts specifially mention not covering vehicles with add on turbocharger or supercharger.

Seems like I also read around ehre somewhere that a few just glued a piece of leather to the hood liner for the CAI to rub against and protect the liner.

I cut the section out that was rubbing until I got the cowl hood and even with the intake spacer still no rubbing.

I lined my liner with a piece made by Carmotorsports. I ended up putting vaseline on the top edge of the K&N to see where it was hitting the liner and cut out an area to relieve it, placing an extra piece of the new lining material on the underside of the liner to hide the hood color. No big deal and I think it looks great.

It's a good thing it's it's touching the hood liner! You want a good seal so you don't get HOT engine air sucked into the filter..
I feel like saying DUH~!

Well the filter element is not shielded from underneath or the side(s), so in the hot season don't race anyone from a dig.

Way to totally hijack this thread
Thats why you clean the MAF a few hundred miles after you re oil your filter

Oh you mean like from a STOP? Hmmm the drags are *just*like that.
I ran a 14.5 with *only mods being* K&N CAI and a Tune.
I think it's working just fine.

Option #2: Don't over-oil the filter after cleaning and you won't have a MAF problem. ;)

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. How long before a cleaning, under normal use, isn't it quite far between necessary cleanings?

I've had my filter now for a couple years and check it at six month intervals. I'm not in a real dusty environment, so I've cleaned and re-oiled at 12 months, and could possibly go even longer than that.
Follow the instructions in the recharge kit, put a nice, light, uniform application of oil on the cleaned element and you should be good to go.

thanks for all the advice. The rubber trim on the heat shield on my intake is what rubs on the hoodliner. I wouldn't care about the "rub" but it's putting a hole in the hoodliner. I pulled the filter assembly out just a little bit from the rubber sleave and this helped for the short-term. I just completed my long-term solution and it seems to be working. My fix was to remove the filter assembly from the car and "grind down" the heat shield at the "90 degree" bend about an 1/8 inch. After re-attaching the rubber trim and re-installing the filter assembly, everything seem to fit perfect. No rubbing so far.
thanks again for advice. I always find this group helpful when it comes to working Marauder issues.
