We are planning a vacation to Washington DC in mid June. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive hotel close to the Metro and close to resturants and shopping? Thanks, Curt

We usually stay at the Holiday Inn Capitol Hill. Park the car there and use public transportation. The Metro is in walking distance as is The Mall. Wear comfortable shoes! They also have a tram to take you to all the sights in and around the Mall. The hotel rates are cheaper on weekends as a rule. There are probably less expensive alternatives but we like the location and we sort of know what to expect in terms of cleanliness, security etc. You might check in with some of the members who live or work there. It's a great place to visit. Enjoy!

Check out the hotel selection in Crystal City. All of the major brands and chains are there. It is in Virginia across the river between Reagan National Airport and the Pentagon and has convenient access to Metro. They might be a little less expensive than in DC itself. Crystal City has an underground shopping area the runs the entire length of "the city". Restaurants galore and just one Metro stop from Pentagon City -- a very upscale shopping mall.
Here's a link >>>>>> http://www.dchoteldirectory.com/ Look for hotels in Northern Virginia or Arlington with "Crystal City", "Pentagon City", or National Airport in their title.

Hi guys, Thanks for the info. I think we are going to stay at the Embassy Suites at 4300 Military Road NW. Since there will be 5 of us, the larger room will be nice. And it sounds like there is a Metro stop right at the hotel. Thanks again, Curt

There is a Homewood Suites and Residence in around 15th and K. They would offer breakfast and a dinner / happy hour and also have a small kitchen. For a large family i believe that would be your best bet.
