"MARAUDERS OF WOODWARD" Modern Muscle Tribute....

http://michaelirvine.com/automotivefineart/2009_MARAUDER/Marauder-Mercury-SNPRINT.jpg

Many thanks to Dave Popovich (MI2QWK4U), Motor City Marauders, for being the mover and shaker behind this very unique and special artwork that he wants to share with all Marauder enthusiasts. Thank you, Steve Babcock, for making this collector's art print even more special.

Above is the pencil sketch of the proposed art print.

Please follow this link for all ordering information and to view the many examples of the fine artwork of the very talented Michael Irvine.
http://michaelirvine.com/automotivefineart/2009_MARAUDER/index.html

Very Important: As part of this exclusive Pre-Release Offer, a minimum of 100 prepaid print orders must be received by June 30th, 2009. If the deadline is not met, then all money will be refunded.

Automotive artist Michael Irvine puts you right in the middle of the action as these powerful V-8s tear up the street in the excitement on Woodward Ave. Including all four colors the car was available in during 2003 and 2004, the scene captures the sinister Mercury Marauders as well as their law enforcement counterpart.

Known for his use of high impact colors, this will be one of Michael's most luminous watercolor paintings. Set against the darkening dusk sky, the green glow of the famous landmark restaurant illuminates the aggressive lines of the black modern muscle car. It closes in on the front runner, reflected in it's bumper. Acting as a perfect mirror, the Marauder's black door reflects another car flanking the driver's side ... the 'cruise' is in high-gear!

MICHAEL ON "MARAUDERS OF WOODWARD"

"The definition of a Marauder is 'a rover in quest of plunder; a raider; one who pillages.' In essence an outlaw or thief - in this case, stealing the scene - as all eyes are drawn to it.

Set on Detroit's Woodward Ave., several factors contributed to my choosing the location. Once a year thousands of cars and millions of people from all over the world are drawn to this infamous strip of asphalt to witness an eclectic range of vehicles, hear the high revving engines and take in the sweet aroma of burning rubber and high-octane fuel.

Spectators are treated to crowd pleasing burnouts and when traffic permits, quick accelerations. Many onlookers position themselves along the curb in their lawn chairs, armed with buckets of water ... waiting for the right car and the right moment. They throw their water across the road daring the drivers to perform for them. And although doing a burnout will probably cost the driver a ticket, some still step up and put on a show. The police are happy to write them up, earning revenue for City Hall, while giving the drivers a great Woodward Dream Cruise souvenir ... a stunting ticket! It's a win-win all round and it's within this spirited environment that I based the painting.

Finally, it's with Marauder enthusiasts in mind, that I chose the familiar landmark, Duggan's Irish Pub, as the backdrop to help define this location on Woodward."

EXCLUSIVE PRE-RELEASE OFFER
This is a unique opportunity to participate in an exclusive offer, made available to members of the Motorcity Marauders, their friends and families, and other clubs/forums they wish to include. Due to the nature of this commission, for the first time ever, Michael is exhibiting a painting "in the works" beginning with the initial pencil sketch shown above.

As an added bonus, Marauder Project Manager, Steve Babcock, will be co-signing the Limited Edition Prints, Artist Proofs and Gallery Edition Canvases that are ordered by the Pre-Release Offer deadline. Steve Babcock will ONLY be co-signing those ordered by June 30th, 2009.

As part of this exclusive Pre-Release Offer, a minimum of 100 prepaid print orders must be received by June 30th, 2009. If the deadline is not met, then all money will be refunded.

Projected release date: no later than October 30th, 2009

For those who may not know who Steve Babcock is.....
he is/was the driving force in getting our cars produced.

If it were not for him, and his team, we'd be driving 2v Vics and Marquis'..... well maybe 3v's now.

Just ordered the ARTIST PROOF WITH REMARQUE (only 20 released), number 03 of 20. 3 works because my 03 car was produced in 03 of 02, if that makes any sense. I had a very nice chat with Linda. She was extremely helpful and answered all of my questions. I can't wait to make an arrangement of this work of art along with my Marauder street signs. Dave, thanks for all of your efforts to make this happen.

From MI2QUIK4U ie: Dave, the guy who got this rolling:

Just a quick update, I spoke with Linda today. We are just over 50 sold! We are less than 50 prints away from getting this thing done. Linda assures me that the sooner we do this, the sooner we get this thing done! So, if you are thinking about this, do it. Linda said that if we get to 100 by mid May, he could devote full time to finishing the print instead of working on another one. They are very excited by our response so far, but I told them it would be very popular with the Marauder folks....

So.... let's get 'er done!

I even parted with new motor money to order one!

Folks, we are 32 prints away from this becoming a reality.

I find it hard to believe that with all the diehard Marauder enthusiasts on this site, and the MCM site, we can't get 100 prints ordered!?!?

I have the print "From Showroom to Show Field" and am still amazed by the detail that goes into this art work. The 1996 Saleen pictured in this print has reflections of almost 21 other Saleens. I don't think that anyone will be disappointed by the end product.

Hey.... a few more to go! Not sure how many.....
From Dave:
Ok, Talked to Linda briefly this morning. She had a meeting, but would update me this afternoon. Since tomorrow is a holiday in Canada, their website probably wouldn't change until July 2nd. She thinks we are very close, so if you were on the fence, hop off and order one. If we have enough, the sale price and any other special offers expire tomorrow. That means you pay more for whichever print you get, and you don't get the print autographed by Steve Babcock. So, now is the time to act. I just told her I was getting another print to help out, so if you want this to happen, step up and lets seal the deal. Anyone waiting to see the finished product are cheating themselves, and will kick themselves for missing out on the extras. If we post a few more, we can seal the deal and be done with it. Let the other site know this too, we are a few short, but I think it will happen.

They are not made over night. They are "supposed" to be all hand painted. And I don't think its their buisness tatic to send one out a time.

First, I doubt that they are "all hand painted" (I don't know where you are getting your information). I will make it more clear for you; they are only signed and numbered by hand.

Secondly, where did I say that I expected any of them to ship yet? All that I have been trying to do is keep the communication active (like a simple update after months of not hearing a word from them).

They don't return emails. What do you think about that as a "business tactic"?

Hi All,
I tried for the past few days myself to get through; as I've bought Mustang BULLITT Prints from Her and Michael over the years and ALWAYS was 100% Satisfied. The line was busy a lot; but she said her and Michael had been on the road a lot for shows etc. She apologized for not being as responsive as they normally are etc.

Bottomline is; Michael is almost finished with the painting - should be a "couple more weeks" or so...Artists can't "rush" things like this...I'm willing to wait as everything he's ever done has always been well-WORTH the wait! She did confirm that by the end of OCT they'd have them mailed out to us along w/ our sketches. I can't wait to see it and actually want to buy ANOTHER one if I can!

THANKS to all and thanks for your patience - If you want to talk with her yourself, you can try dialing her or Emailing....she's catching up now in fact and she said she would try Emailing all the folks she knows she OWES notes back to, but for now rest assured all is well.

This just in as of 5-3-09:

In an effort to get this project off the ground sooner, and the print done quicker for us, Linda told me they are going to throw in an 8.5 X 11 reproduction of the concept art! She said that this is the FIRST and ONLY time that they have done this. This will be nice enough to frame up and display next to your full sized print. Everyone that has placed an order by May 17th will get one. They are eager to start this painting for us, and if he starts by mid May, it will be in our hands that much faster. Very sweet.

All,

I was informed by Linda from the studio today and I quote,

"Funny you should ask ... Michael completed the painting last night! I actually sent off a low res image for Steve Babcock to give his nod of approval this morning and we're waiting to here back. Once we have that, it's off to
production and scheduling of the signing. I should have a more definite
date within the next couple of days.

Once Michael makes his final tweaks, I'll email you an image to post on the forum. I'll also be posting a webpage. Again, this should happen this week.

Thanks to everyone who preordered, they won't be disappointed ... the painting looks amazing! Although it would have been great if Michael could have completed a bit sooner, you just can't rush the creative process. The details he's added ... wow! And we are still on target for having the prints shipped before the end of October.

Please feel free to post this info on the forum.
Thanks
Linda"

Important Updates: Marauder Certificates and Michael Irvine Artwork.
I thought I would bring everyone up to date on the Marauder Certs. I talked with John at FPG today. John said there was a small problem with the artwork on the Certificate that was discovered today when they were making up samples. It is a small fix and should have it corrected this week. If all goes well, Mike and I should have our prototypes in hand by the end of next week. Mike, Steve, and I will sit down over dinner and go over them, Steve is a perfectionist and wants to make sure it is done right, and I agree. Once we approve the proof, it is a done deal and the FPG will go about offering them up. I will make sure FPG has the current dues paying membership list, this is what they will go off in giving out our club discount on the Certificates. So, if you want a nice discount on your Certificate(s), make sure you are a current dues paying member of the MCM. If you want to become a supporting member now, it will carry the rest of 2009 and all of 2010! I will update you guys as I get more.

Now, here is the latest on the Marauder Art Print.... IT'S DONE! Well...mostly! The copy of the print was emailed to me in low res form so Steve Babcock can give it a once over. I think that the artist, Michael, is very excited to have the man the created the subject of his work assure it is as accurate as possible. This has never been done in his work before. Once it is good to go, Linda says it is off to production. At that point we will set up a time for Michael and Steve to meet up to sign the pre ordered prints!
I can tell you the print is larger than life, vivid colors, very subtle hints of hidden details reflected off the Marauders...... Gorgeous. You won't be disappointed.

Well...these projects may end up coming to fruition very soon, it has been almost 3 years in the making, but honestly, I can tell you that both turned out better than I ever imagined. I am going to hang a Limited Production Certificate for my Marauder on the wall, right next to my Limited Production, absolutely gorgeous Art Print! What other car club can lay claim to that kind of accomplishments?! Hasn't sunk in yet, finding out that both of my pet projects will be done soon, on the same day! No way to top this.

Steve will be co-signing the prints on Sunday November 29. In St. Thomas, Ontario. And it's no co-incidence that's where the Mercury Marauders were built!

We will start shipping on Monday, November 30th. It will take about a week to get all the prints shipped out. The Artist Proofs will ship the following week, as they are completed. All print are shipped with FedEx Ground.

Special Introductory Offer has been extended. There's still time to take advantage of our Special Introductory pricing. It now expires on December 12, 2009.

We'll be taking some photos in front of the plant, with Steve and Michael. Be sure to check out the forum as well as our Blog early next week!

Have a great weekend.

Got my print today - very nice. Thanks everyone who made this a reality. Only wish Steve had signed his full name like the painter and added "Ford MM Project Manager". That would have been a great touch.

If anyone is interested Michael's hobby/craft stores are running a 50% off custom framing this coming week. Girl told us not to expect it before Christmas though as they were swamped.

I went local and had both pictures framed with wood and glass frames for $100 for both.

They run that same ad every week here in North Carolina.

The UPS man delivered mine today. #32 of 800. Very nice with the certificate and the original pencil art copy.

One comment .... the "MARAUDER" embossed on the rear of the Blue MM (reflection in the bumper of the Black MM) looks to be too large in both width and height IMHO.

Can't quite make out the license plate on the Black MM's reflection. Anybody figure out what that one is?

I recieved mine last friday and took it and the production certificate down to get framed! I cant wait to see it, ended up being pretty pricey at over $360 but I think it will be worth it

:eek::eek:

Is the frame solid gold?

Is there a Michael's craft store nearby? They always have a 50% off custom framing coupons in the newspaper.

That is actually where I got it done at, I also put the production certificate under the painting as the print number is the same as the last 3 of the VIN. So I ended up needing much more of the matting and I picked the highest quality glass available so it didnt have a reflection. I will have to try and find the coupon youre talking about and see if they will honor it or not?

I checked the reciept, that is with the 50% off....haha I think I would have **** if they told me it would be $720 for it to be framed!

The tag on the blue says FAST MERC

And the tag on the black mm says 300 H.P

Look a little closer.........

Silver Birch is reflected in the DTR, which is reflected in the black.

All the colors are reflected in the black.

All colors are represented as well as the late 60's early 70's Marauders.

Thanks for the tip about Michael's. I had never been in their stores before. I left my print to be framed (for their 1/2 price sale)...$213...Custom 33-7/8" x 24 1/2" black metal frame, jet black top mat, pewter 2nd mat, Masterpiece glass. Two week wait!

The young chica that waited on me was very helpful, and knowledgeable. She said she had been trained on the job, 3 years ago. There is much artistry that goes into framing. She had a woman's perspective on matching frame, matting color choices, & arraignment (which I did appreciate), but I preferred a more personal (masculine?) theme.

Strange how a woman can be different (or better?) than a man when it comes to color coordination.

The reflection in the dtr looks like the black marauder with the police lights.
