SUCK !!

Woke up this morning at 1:15, felt like someone had kicked me right in the left kidney/back.

Got dressed, came downstairs, was going to drive myself to the ER. Well, that changed when I broke into a sweat and felt like I was going to pass out. Called 911 instead and went by ambulance.

Hospital did a catscan, blood and urine test, and sure enough, a 2.5MM kidney stone. Felt better as it moved to the bladder.

Got discharged at 4am, have not passed it yet, but was warned that this wont be a pleasant experience either.

Anyone else ever had this ? They said I was the 4th person tonight to show up a the ER with this.

The only other worse pain I experienced was when I hyper-extended my knee.

My brother in law just passed one last month. Its been said its the worst pain a human can endure without passing out.
Im sure the doctor told you to drink tons of liquid to pass the stone. My brother in law found that he passed it quicker and with less pain while drinking beer.
Give it a shot!

Like the guys said, LOTS of fluids. Some docs will order Flomax to relax the urethra. Good luck and let us know how it works out. Don't be surprised to see some blood when it passes. You'll be OK.:)

LOL ouch it hurts when I laugh..

Nothing yet, lots of fluid and lots of pissing, but it hasn't passed yet.

Doctor said it could dissolve, in which case I really wouldn't feel it. Let's hope this is the case.

Another glass of water and back to bed..

A few years ago we were going to Mid-Ohio for Sunday races, I picked up the six pack cooler, and doubled over in pain. After 7 hrs. it didn't pass, and still hasn't that I know of. They gave me so much Morphine I couldn't walk when they released me.

My doctor said it was an excess of calcium, I drink a lot of milk, but the Dr. said that wasn't it, it was my metabolism that caused the calcium to harden in my kidney, BTW I never drink water.

There are many different reasons for kidney stones. Diet, metabolism, heredity, and lack of water, I have passed one too, no fun, people 'in general' have more stones in the summer than in the winter. need to drink more water.
good luck

When I was 6, I had 3 baseball sized ones. I had to get operated on to get them removed, and upon removing, the all crumbled....What would have been 1 hour surgery, turned into a 6 hour surgery. Good luck.

My lovely and beautiful wife had a similar problem a couple of years ago. Stone lodged in the "common duct" and wouldn't budge.

The doc's went in with micro instruments and plucked that puppy out. No muss, no fuss back on her feet in a day.

Good luck.

Just saw something on the news that diet soda helps against stones, something about the calcium in it.

Had them twice. One passed at home the other time I spent 5 days in the Hospital. They said I ate too much ice cream. I stopped eatting ice cream. Worst pain in the world. I pray every night my enemies get them. Good luck. The drugs only help so much. Shaijack

Update:

As of 8:30 tonight, I have not passed any stones. They might however have dissolved, and here's why I think this could have happened. About noon today, while pissing in a plastic jar that they gave me at the hospital, I noticed in the urine quite a bit of "stuff" like small pieces of sediment or particles floating around in it. I then dumped it thru the strainer they gave me, but the pieces were so small that there was nothing left. (Strainer is supposed to catch the stone, then you take the stone to your Dr. to have it analyzed).

Anyways, feeling better, slight cramp still in the left side, they said this was normal. Slept from 2pm - 6:30 tonight, so have to see how getting a normal night's sleep goes tonight.

I feel for you. I've suffered from them for around 20 years. Every couple fo years I get one - sometimes it will pass quickly, other times not. Had a surgery a few years ago where they took one out but didn't do any cutting. I'll let you figure how they got it out. Was in hospital for 5 days after that one.
Very important to capture one when you pass it so that the doc can have it analyzed as to type. Mine are from eating or drinking too much tea, pop, tomatoes, spinach, beets, rhubarb, etc. i.e. too much food/ drink high in oxacylic acid.
Good luck and be thankful for oxycontin.

Well, just passed it about a half hour ago, and I guess I was lucky, it didn't hurt a bit.

Nice way to start your day, with a little black spec coming out of you in your piss

Oh well, hopefully that's it for along time. Now to run it over to the Dr. and drop it off.

Just went through a similar experience about 3 weeks ago. Pains in the right side. Not sure of the size; but it was one of those "WTF is this" moments. Glad that this worked out well and that your worst fears were not realized.

Yes, they do hurt and mine wouldn't pass. Stuck right around the waist line on the left hip. I was sick as a dog for three days and there was no comfort. They finally had to to go in and get it. Totally messed me up for a few days. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Can't they "get" gallstones with ultrasound treatment?

Can't they "get" gallstones with ultrasound treatment?Gallstones are found in the gallbladder and sometimes the common duct. Kidney stones form in the kidneys and can be fractured into smaller pieces by undergoing lithotripsy. Sound waves (I believe) are directed at the location of the stone. It's done under sedation on an out patient basis. If successful, the smaller pieces can then pass out through the urethra with urination. The size of the stone needs to measure 5mm or larger for this option. :)
