After realizing what my Caroliona Marauder member 03MMMonroe found wrong with by brakes I need to pass it along to all as you too may want to check on yours----its easy.

First Off -- The Problem

I was experiencing some very hard wacko brake feel just after going about 4 miles each time out from a cold engine start and then right after that the ABS Yellow trouble light would come on and stay on.

Research tells us that this means the the ABS may not work or be working if needed when in this state of condition.....not a good feeling.......but you still have braking capabilities.

The Fix

Pulled the wheels off, starting with the rear and found the Right ABS senor had fallen out of its connector slot...the bolt holding it in place apparently vibrated out . Now it is magnetic and it still fell out--so thru braking or other use caused this.... anyway re-inserted and replaced with correct bolt and some lock tight....Boom! FIXED......

We checked the other rear wheel and found the bolt also had fallen out but the senor was still in the slot ---so it could fall out with any sever braking or vibration later ...so once again a new bolt and its is fixed.

So, you all might want to take a look next time your wheels are off or do it now.....I was really thinking the worst but fortunately it turned out with a simple fix.

Great write-up!

:bows:

Can you elaborate on what bolt(s) you used and where you purchased?

Part Number maybe?

Mike.

Prolly didn't have to purchase anything, since 03MMMmnroe works for Ford and most likely has lotsa parts laying around.

Like fastblackmerc indicated....but...it was pretty much a "try and see if this fits" kinda thing.....there may be a part # for it but your likely to have one laying around that can be used.......

Marauderjack has posted this info I thought you would find interesting as well--including my reply........:

Marauderjack said:
That's strange Tom......when I did my rear axles I could hardly get the sensors out!!!

They had Loc-Tite on the bolts and the sensors were stuck in the holes so tight I had to WD-40 them to remove them!!!

Glad you figgered it out!!

My reply:
Actually, I really think it is or was cause from my OEM shocks...cause my widened rears, which are 295's, rub them and under some of my vigorous punches and especially if slightly on a turn , those tires rub vigorously and make the car feel like it came off the axles.....thus maybe enough vibs to cause this problem..........so now it doesn't surprise me that that may have been the problem...ya think..?

I plan on going to Nakke (sp) shocks cause they are thinner which is what I need----even Russ pointed out that my shocks are being rubbed very good when he took the tires off to check the sensors...........so.......... it kinda makes since to me---adds up.......may just be my problem caused from that and not really applicable to others.......????

Thanks for posting your involvement--that in itself is interesting...

These need to be loosened to replace the axles. Have you done an axle swap lately?

A picture would help too.

Your right--a pic would help.. but I'm w/o a camera ....next time I get the wheels off I should have a pic..........not sure when that will be---maybe someone else is planning on removing their wheels and can post a pic.......the ABS sensors are easy to spot.........sorry couldn't post pic right away.........

The bolt that was missing is to hold the sensor into the backing plate. The bolt I used is the same size as the bed liner bracket for the tie downs on ford trucks. I used what I had. This was the first time I have seen this happen. I have worked for ford 8 years as a Field Service Engineer and never had this concern. Glad I could help Tom.
