View Full Version : How do you let go?
Im talking about selling a Marauder/Car in general.
Ive had 5 MM's since 03 and driven every power adder but a turbo MM.
Its not exciting anymore. Everytime I look around on a nice day I can see myself driving something else cool.
Problem is, I think I would have seperation anxiety. :bigcry:
Dont get me wrong, I love the MM's I have! Problem is, I think I grew up just a little and realized I want to enjoy as many different things I can get my hands on during my lifetime. (this statement does not apply to Becky :D)

My first car just got towed away Monday...I had that car for 10 years...I was a lil choked up to know I would never see that car again. If you had 5 MM since they came back...I think you will have a few sleepness nights wondering where and why.

I totally agree with your statement Zack, Problem is we are used to one car now that pretty much suits us PERFECTLY and I keep thinking after a couple days in something else it would drive me ape s***! After five years for me now I could see a change in order down the road, problem being what????
Flame suit on, i've actually been thinking something completely average, lets say for example a decent Fusion, plain jane CTS, crown vic, ect. and focusing on my true passion, early thirtys street rods. Here's the dilema; enter Marauder, a vehicle that i've became obsessive compulsive over, a car that sits most days in the garage, and steals my money from accomplishing my true dream, a car that already demands a work car to replace the hardships of driving.
It's quite obvious that i'm "scared" to let it go.
So what exactly have you seen that brought this on?
I have 2 MM's, 03 Mach 1, 59 Caddy and 2 76 Caddy's
Egad Zack! I used to have such a car crush on the '76 caddy, tell me one of them is a red, drop top with black interior. And the reason it became a former love was because I discovered the 71 impala convertible, and man o' man, what memories.

When I sold my 68 Fastback project a couple of years ago, it was the toughest thing I've had to do... even harder than selling the Katana 1100.... every once and awhile I cringe and a tear wells up over the Mustang.
But you do and move on.

I let mine go... I was dying to get rid of it, but I do miss it terribly. The Mach1 just doesnt compare. It doesnt give me the same feeling the MM had.

I know this kinda of post isn't well recieved here... but here goes.
There is a list of cars that I would gladly trade my Marauder for if I could afford it.
My MM is my DD that fit my all my needs, some of my wants and budget.
If I suddenly got into a better position I would look at something else, trade up and not look too hard back at it. Feeling is growing though. It would be more diffucult now than a year ago.
Marauder is a decent car.... just needs more gadets, less weight and double the power!

When the MM stops being fun for me, I'll just sell it or trade it and walk away. No regrets and no remorse. But I don't see that happening any time soon. There's just nothing out there that grabs my attention like the MM did back in 2002. And I still have that feeling everytime I drive it. The youngest son (S.O.B.) still thinks that I am gonna give the MM to him when it hits 70,000 miles. That's only 9K away and I am afraid I am gonna have to disappoint the boy.
If you are tired of the MM ... get rid of it (them) and give someone else a chance to experience the thrill of the Marauder.

In 1995 I became obsessed with the SS Impala, then in 2002 it was the Marauder...So far nothing else is giving me the same feeling.
My wife had a Daytona Charger with the Hemi, but it wasnt the same feeling. Maybe its just me.

What's scary is a dog gone V6 mini Asian SUV is capable of turning 14.9 in the quarter, the new Rav 4.Imagine getting embarassed in a stcok MM by some girl in a Rav 4.
Get a Harley,if you think there's a ton of mods for the MM and lots of parts to spend money on personalizing and improving performance on a MM you ain't seen nothing till you try a Hog.

I got my 96 Impala SS in 2003, when the Marauder's were first coming out. I always said I would never get rid of the SS unless it was for a Marauder. I got rid of the SS and got into Mustangs instead, not a MM. Fast forward 6 years and a ton of other cars later I finally have my Marauder, and I'm NOT getting rid of it.

I couldn't have sold my Marauder if I had wanted to. I myself waited and scrapped so long just to get the 1st one (rip) there was no way i was going to let it go. Granted I put tons of miles on it, I was told this took away from the value. But having a hot car is like having a hot wife. Why spend the money to keep them around if your not gonna #### em?
Now that my first one is gone, I really want another and am 90% sure this is what I will get. My only temptation is I still need a truck and there are some good priced Lightnings out there right now.

It's tough. Last car I really had a strong attraction to was the Lincoln MkVII. I went through 5 or 6 of them, I drove one for over 12 years. Wife had one too. The only car that ever came along that I had any strong attraction to was the Marauder, so here I am. I did have a hard time letting the last (and my first) MkVII go.
When I sold my 68 Fastback project a couple of years ago, it was the toughest thing I've had to do... even harder than selling the Katana 1100.... every once and awhile I cringe and a tear wells up over the Mustang.

My '68 FB project car is still scattered all over the garage, I still plan to finish it someday. If I hadn't gotten sidetracked with the Marauder, it would be done by now. Just think, one engine, one supercharger project, two transmissions. Any of those would have put it on the road. And I'm on the 5th engine, 8th transmission, 2nd supercharger system.
Hard thing for me is weaning myself from MM.net. It has been home for so long. I've never been banned even for a vacation. Seen so many folks come & go. It just ain't feeling so great these days. Newbies come in and think they know more with their first post than the old-timers who bought new Marauders and figured out all the nuances from scratch. I dunno, maybe I need to find a new place to hang out.

Selling the car would be one thing. Finding another forum and friends who we enjoy as much as those here at mm.net would be another.;) It's hard to separate the car from the experience of enjoying the fringe benefits. That said, I have never enjoyed driving anything more than I enjoy driving my Marauder. I hope there will be another (low mileage) one waiting for me if I need to replace mine some where down the road. But I don't like to think about that ever happening. This car's my baby.

I'm getting bored with the current state of my Marauder....
Don't get me wrong...I have NO intentions of selling it!
I don't have the money for a S/C system, and I really don't want to go that route to go faster.
To be honest, I'm tired of messing with a tiny bore, tiny cube modular engine and trying to wring lots of HP out of it.
I am seriously considering selling my 1/2 interest in the 427 Cobra to my brother to finance a serious engine for my Marauder.
I'm sure that I will miss the 427 Cobra, but it is such a limited use vehicle, that I probably will get over it soon enough.
I love the 'there is no replacement for displacement' - 'sledge hammer works better than a ballpeen hammer' mentality!
John Kaase is remaking all the BOSS 429 parts including new BOSS 429 based crate engines.
http://www.jonkaaseracingengines.com/
I would rather spend lots of coin to slip a BOSS 589 Hemi into my Marauder than to keep dumping lots of coin into a puny modular engine.
The good news is that I would still have those massive valve covers, plus 900 HP N/A.

Ok, now I have to say something. I've had many cars in my life time. There was a point in my life that I even wanted to build my own hot rod (still do). The Marauder is the first car I have ever purchased that I did not have to build up. She already had everything that I would have to change in my other cars. Example would be my 1986 Merc Cougar. She has a V-6. I was gonna put a V-8 in her, change the tranny, exhaust, rear end, bench to bucket seats, column shift to floor shift, etc. etc. My Marauder has all that. I think I will be keeping her for awhile. (My GF would beat me if I did get rid of her car. LOL!) I would keep at least one Marauder and get some other toy you may want. I still want to build a hot rod but I won't get rid of my Marauder to do it.

Same way I see it. I wouldn't part with a Marauder that easily, hold onto them, and get other toys to play with if you have the need for something new or different.
For example, as of late I have been feigning for a crotch rocket, and a stick shift two door sports car.

lol yea i think it just comes with the years you have the car. after owning something for so long its only a matter of time before it gets at least a little old. however i think once you find the car its gonna be very hard for a person to let it go. i think i see this becoming an issue with the marauder community since most owners dont want to experiment with major changes to the car that is already rare enough and that takes away a lot of excitement of having a car.

I would let go for a Twin Turbo Pontiac G8 or.......
2011 Mustang GT if it has a 5.0L 4v.
With the Dodge Challenger R/T kicking out 372 horsepower and the Chevrolet Camaro SS producing upwards of 422 horsepower, the 2010 Mustanghttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.leftlanenews.com/2011-ford-mustang-gt-to-feature-50l-v8.html#) GT is a bit underpowered at only 315. To remedy that shortcoming, Ford is preparing to wedge a new 5.0L V8 underneath the hood of the 2011 Mustang.Code-named ‘coyote’, the new 32-valve powerplant will be shared with the 2011 Ford F-150. In F-150 guise, the coyote powerplant will be producing upwards of 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, so expect the 2011 GT to at least match those figures.
Zack broaches this subject indirectly; Who do you sell a modified Marauder to?
My #2 son, the Honda Mech, asked me, if I sold the Marauder, would I give him first bid?
I would have no problem selling the Marauder to him because he's been involved in the upkeep, modification and repair since the begining. Plus he's a competent mechanic.
But that begs the question, who would you sell a highly modified Marauder to?
If the potential buyer has no understanding of the car, stock and modified, what will happen when they need service or repair?
The local dealership wouldn't be of much help in Duluth North Dakota.
Their Marauder experience, I fear, would turn sour very quickly to the chagrin of the new owner.
We have seen how used car dealers get the tires mixed up, would they know how to change an SC belt on a Vortec? What if they reflashed the computer back to stock with an S/C or 4:10s or high speed torque convertor?
I couldn't, in good conscience, sell a modified Marauder to some unsuspecting party and sleep at night, without orienting them completely on the care and feeding of this beast.
So unless you can pass a hundred question test on the maintence of a stock and modified Marauder and have been a member of this site for two years and have a basic tool kit, I can't sell you my car. I'm very sorry, but that's the way it is.

72 Thunderbird
73 Chevy Nova
73 Charger
77 Camaro
81 Camaro
83 Firebird
97 LeSabre
2003 Acura TL-S
No separation anxiety. I miss one or two of those cars, sometimes, but its not a big deal. Onwards and upwards. They are cars, not people. And I say that, having put tons and tons of hours into all of those cars. I would work weekends without sleeping on them sometimes.

Granted there is a narrowed demographic out there to buy a highly modified Marauder, there will be someone who would love buying the car with all the go-fast goodies done with, I know because I would. Just go on svtperfomance.com there are over 85,000 members  Theres even a member on there with a fully built twin turbo lamborghini gallardo...:burnout:

Almost sold mine last May when i bought the Lightning. Just couldnt bring myself to do it. Ive always liked full frame, solid axle, four door cars. Maybe a G8 now that its out, but nothing else compares to the MM for me. My MM is also my DD, so a vette or a cobra just wont work right now, id be to worried about driving it on a daily basis.

HELP!
I've resisted the urge to give you a good smack-down, but can't resist no more.
Doofus. You're a doofus, plain and simple. :mad2: What other car has this kind of following, limited production and good friends like me? You sell that BLUE and I diss-own you.

On the selling modified MM's issue;
Keep in mind Trilogy cars have a complete hard binder of not only thorough instructions but every part number, most of which are FORD #'s. Besides, in a matter of a couple days these can be returned to stock and speed parts can be sold seperately for quite a profit. This is my reasoning for keeping ALL stock parts.
I think that i'd test the waters and try selling modified first, after all 10,000 modified miles and no issue's as of yet. If I couldn't get what I want then i'd probably part it.

My suggestion: you have lots of BIG cars all with V8's - sell one or two of them. I'd keep the better MM, sell the old Caddies.
Try getting a small four cylindar, keep it American, keep it FORD.
Try driving a Ford Focus SVT - or get a used Escort GT or Cosworth Escort.

Those little cars will be fun to drive - still have good power and still be AMERICAN! Long live Ford.

I bought the MM to keep....
The thought of selling/trading has never crossed my mind.....well, that's not totally true, when gas spiked to 4.00 + a gallon, I was contemplating trading it in for a horse and buggy!
Just yesterday, I was thinking about how reliable my MM has been, other than the "tire" issue, no major mechanical problems and at 85K miles, is as strong today as the day I bought it. (knock on wood!)
The other issue is that I, along with the other original owners, have eaten about approx 66% (if not more) in deprecation costs. It's cheaper to keep her!!
Hardly a day goes by that I don't get some sort of "recognition" when I am driving the MM. I'm proud of the ride!
My MM will be in my garage for a long, long time!!
