I've had a right rear axle seal leaking small drops of gear oil for the last two weeks. I decided to pull everything and see what was going on this weekend. After pulling the axles, I found both sides had been scored from bad wheel bearings. Local dealer has them in stock and I'll pick them up when I have the funds. I was able to talk them down to $140 an axle. I already purchased wheel bearings and axle seals from NAPA a few weeks ago.
The rear end leaked onto the rear pads, so they will need to be replaced as well. Another $65 plus turning the rotors. I'm taking the opportunity to install the SS flex brake lines and remove the line lock from the system. I'm also flushing the old brake fluid with DOT 4 fluid.
The next discovery was tonight when I pulled the diff to rebuild the trac-lok. The two idler spider gears were nearly destroyed. Both gears had chips and breaks on every tooth. The two drive gears had broken teeth and multiple chips. The clutches on the trac-lok were completely fried and had experienced a thermal event at one point.
I've been selling left over Mustang parts to finance the repairs. I was laid off last week on Friday and had not budgeted for these repairs to be so costly. So for now, the Marauder is down.:depress:
