Help....does anyone know what the Ford recommended Oil Change intervals are for the Marauder. I am fighting with the service dept. guys and now need to provide oil change documents. Is it every 3500 miles or 4000 miles that the oil has to be changed.

Thanks

Brad

Do you have a service contract, what is the dispute over? Oil change intervals are only guidelines to follow under normal circumstances, your driving may require changes, more or less often. For example, police cruisers, and taxi cabs sit and idle for long periods, therefore they should be on an hourly clock, not a mileage parameter. Temperature, humidity, even altitude will have an effect on oil life. I know this didn't answer your question, but it shows that there is no clear answer, since oil manufacturers now claim oil life into the 10,000-15,000 mile range. If I were to be in this discussion, I would probably have a sample of the oil tested for proof of continued protection. They would get tired of talking to me and I win.

Ditto, the owners manual is only a guideline. Soulds like you have an aftermarket warranty. Have the oil analysized and it will tell you what intervals should be used to make the changes.

The car had 31,000 miles on it when the motor went. I have the extended Ford Warranty and they are insisting that I show all the oil receipts. I did not drive the car the past two winters and did some oil changes on my own but they now want me to come up with some more receipts. I checked the extended warranty contract and nowhere does it say you need to keep oil receipts. It does say proper maintenance which I presume is oil changes so I need to know the intervals to argue with them. If anyone knows please advise. Thanks.

When you did your own oil changes, did you buy the oil/filters with your credit or debit card? Perhaps showing them statements with "auto parts store" purchases might satisfy them. Usually, the Ford owner's manual states 5,000 mile intervals but, as mentioned by others, this is completely dependent on the driving circumstances. Is it the actual dealer service department or the warranty company giving you the hard time? If it's the dealer, maybe try another one? Best of luck... :)

Thanks for the advice. Put it on the credit card so I just have to go back and pull that up.

This is a good example where Ford does not want to cover an engine and using the oil reciepts to get out of it. Soooooooo let say I buy a used ford product, hey they want me to buy an extended warrt! But not being first owner how would you ever produce these reciepts? Can't! Oh well save your money and don't buy the Extentioned warrt!

5000 miles is the recomended interval (normal service). Ford ESP has gotten more critical over the last year. This makes it hard on the dealer as well because we have to face the customer with the bad news when it is not our decision. I am assuming this is possibly an oil related failure? The easiest thing is probably to come up with the reciepts. You may be able to have an oil analysis done to show if the oil had broken down. It obviously will have metal in it but if the other criteria are good that may give you a point of argument.

They Pulled apart the lower bottom end and took pictures as 3 main bearings were spun along with 2 rod bearings. Almost looks like the oil pump was breaking down/not working all the time per the mechanic. The Ford Inspector has been stringing this along for two weeks now with an additional two engine tear-downs even after I provided them with all the oil receipts they requested- Thanks W4LTD ...as I pulled my old charge card receipts!

Finally got pissed-off and called the dealer today and asked if they were representing me or not -as I did not feel it as a customer. I have been a Ford guy my whole life and I dont remember Ford ever treating there customer's like this- ever! Finally the Dealer's Customer Service manager got on the phone with the Ford Inspector's boss and the next thing I know a new engine has been approved!

Thank God as I really have been tapped out lately and was not looking forward to paying another $4000-$6000 on a long block.

Thank you guys for your advice on this matter! Finally a happy Ford ending!

Glad to see it all worked out, I change my oil every 3k miles even with full synthetic... Overkill? Perhaps, but it's also peace of mind. My warranty expires in 2013 and I hopefully won't have to ever use it!

Very glad it worked out for you.

Not defending the dealer at all, but let's face it---times are tough for everybody, and dealerships are bleeding like never before. I'm not surprised that they would 'request' some documentation before agreeing to provide a whole new engine. I don't know it for a fact, but I would guess that every level of management is breathing down the necks of each lower level to make sure all procedures are followed to the letter before making a no-charge replacement of this value.

Again, I'm glad this worked out for you, as there's no way that an engine should fail with so few miles.
