i guess my main question is does it help or hurt the engine in anyway?

That looks like the grommet on the rear of the drivers side cam cover. There is a elbow and a hose that goes from there into the air intake tube. I guess someone thought that looked better. :shake:

Just vents the crankcase, it's illegal for road use, because it doesn't feed back in to the intake. In my opinion it goes in the garbage.

Probably won't pass your state inspections with that installed. I'd remove it.

Keep searching, you'll find more wierd stuff.

No state inspections in Southern Maryland yet. Can't say that for the rest of the state. Coming home soon?

The breather appears to be on the driver's side. If the PCV valve is still connected on the passenger's side valve cover you will be drawing unmetered air into the intake. The breather needs to be taken off and replaced with a hose that connects the valve cover to the intake tube between the MAF and TB.
