Nice contribution!
Great composition...we all know what it is, and had the lever been in drive....
Kudos on the clean console.
I did a comp on the theme 'frugality' a few weeks back and shot an old school light switch in the OFF position.
It went over real well...but took flack over the dirt on the switch LOL!
SEE BELOW...a good example of macro.

Now remenber folks, up close and personal...bonus for depth of field and bokeh.

Comon Ol'Kid...I am waiting to see your entry.
Mine to follow tomorrow.

This theme turned out to be a bit more difficult than I imagined as far as what to shoot.

I ended up keeping it simple.

EXIF AND SETUP:

Tripod mounted and fired remotely, Nikon D80 with Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro lens.

Focal length 90mm / APS equivilent 135mm
f5.6 at 1/25"
ISO 100
WB Cloudy

*After the fact I feel I needed a remotely fired flash at say 1/4 power and diffused as well.
It would have lit up the side of the valve stem cover and produced a better bokeh effect overall.

Comon Ol'Kid...I am waiting to see your entry.
Mine to follow tomorrow.

Might not be in this one Barry. I've spent most of the day today, trying to work out color management issues between my monitor and photo editing software. I was going to go out and try a few shots, but it wouldn't do me any good if I can't make them look good for you guys. ;)

My monitor is crap, and I have tried to calibrate it, then I discovered that one of my photo editing programs hasn't even been set up to use that profile. Sometimes I use Photoshop, and other times I use the Canon Digital Professional Photo software, or a combination of the two. I've made so many changes, I may have to set everything back to default and start over. :(

Anyhow, I'll play if I can. Maybe I can luck out and get something straight out of the camera that doesn't require any post processing.

Here's a shot I got this morning. Hopefully it will look ok.

I don't normally shoot in macro, but I guess that's why it's called a challenge. :) Made some slight curve adjustments, sharpening, and resized in Photoshop.

Camera: Canon EOS 5D
Lens: Canon 24-105L IS
Aperture: F8.0
Shutter Speed: 1/160
ISO: 400

They are both good pic.... We should have explained better, Macro shots are usually less than 5 inches from the object in the shot (or closer yet), its where you usually have to change your camera to macro mode (or install a macro lense, for those with real cameras) because otherwise it is so close the camera cannot focus. They are still good submission, and I enjoy your participation. Thanks

not at all... I shoot with a cannon power shot SD630. Just a small digital camera, but when I first got it I read the advanced features and got tips from cruztaker and oldekid and alot of others and have just experimanted my way to where I am now.

I bet my camera lost less than alot of people lenses alone.

it IS a good shot, I like it, I was just explaining what "Macro" is, trying to help others learn what I did.

No training needed and as Black Noise said...damn near EVERY point and shoot out there can do this.

Here's the deal and you can edit your entry if you like and use a new image.

GET AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR SUBJECT AS YOUR CAMERA WILL STILL FOCUS.
Just back away until until you can focus.
Forcebly turn off your flash and raise the iso to say 400 or more.
For best composition, make sure there is something in the frame nearer, and farther from the focal point...this will add what is known as the BOKEH effect (intentionally having things out of focus).
I have seen it done in our Flikr groups with the most simple point and shoots.

Examples of Macro:Barry, your examples are in fact macro, but macro is a little subjective. I have lenses that have a minimum focus range of a little over a foot, but do in fact have macro focusing adjustments. Macro is technically a 1:1 ratio. I would need extension tubes to do true "macro".

Most point and shoots are able to simulate macro shots due to the small size of the sensor in the camera, yet they are not truely macro.

I say lets relax the rules of macro. We are shooting a car, not insects or coins.

Maybe this should have been titled "closeup shots" instead.

Let's let everyone play.

Just so i'm clear, macro is about the clarity of the actual target?

CRUZTAKER

It's closeup photography...as close as possible.
Typically the closer you can get, more of the surrounding subject will become out of focus. That is expected and not an issue.

In this theme, taking a picture of just a portion of your car is not macro.
Taking an exteme closeup of of an arbitrary item somewhere on the car IS.

Peruse website groups dedicated to Macro for examples.
Here is a sample Flikr group search:

So far that one is my favorite. Don't know exactly what catches my attention the most on it -- the color(s), the focus on the first gauge with increasing blur away, the scale of the faces as it gets further away. Something about that pic makes me want a full size poster. Very good!! :2thumbs: I like it ...... ALOT.

Nope, I think the idea is that we figure out a topic through suggestions, then we all get to see how everyone understands that topic through thier pictures. I dont thing we will ever see any two alike.

This macro one, for example, there are alot of shots that I would have never of thought to do, but others did.

Its fun to see and everyone's choices are considered equally.

Besides what are you gonna win?
