My daughter, who attends college about 90 miles away, has a 2003 Ford Escape with a 3.0 V6. She called on Saturday saying that the service engine soon light was on and that it was running very rough. She brought it to a Jiffy Lube and they detemined that it was a misfire on the #2 cylinder. I changed plugs last fall, so I'm thinking it's a bad coil. They couldn't fix it that day, so I will drive down next weekend and change the coil. Sorry about the long story, but where is cylinder #2. I think it's the front cylinder on the back side of the engine which means removing the upper intake. Just want ot make sure before I change the wrong coil. Thanks, Curt

On 4-cylinder engines, the cylinders are numbered 1-2-3-4 from front to back. 6-cylinder engines are numbered the same way, front to back; passenger side of engine are 1-2-3; driver's side of the engine 4-5-6. Front is toward the front grille and back is toward the firewall.

From the internet:

I have had a miss on my 3 litre V-6 twice now. Both times the problem was a faulty ignition coil on the front bank. The insulation cracks allowing moisture in and the wiring inside corrodes. Replace the coil assembly. About $ 160 from Ford.

Damp or wet weather can play havoc with some vehicles electric systems. Try replacing the wires and give all the electrics under the hood a good spray with WD40 or similar at regular intervals ,especially after rain.
