View Full Version : Adjusting rear ride-height
Sorry if this has been covered before.
How does lowering the rear ride-height via the air-suspension setting affect the air-spring rate? In other words, does lowering the setting (i.e., lower ride-height) soften the ride & handling, or does it remain constant?

That all depends on how much? If your talking a normal drop to hug the top of the tires then no, or atleast I didn't notice any.

Yeah, just enough to hug the top.
Now, is it trial & error to get the right amount of drop...or will every, say, 1/8" of adjustment of the sensor yield, say, 1/2" of drop?
THANKS.

Can't remember the ratio, but I would like to remind you that if you are going to play with the ride height please make sure that you turn off the air compressor in the trunk. Having your MM stomp on you while you were underneath adjusting the air suspension would be a pretty lousy way to go.
BTW: I found nothing but improved ride and control by leveling the car's stance via this method. Way better balanced and far less tail-happy.

Yes^^^good advice. Just move it in small increments, I'd say a 1/4" to 3/8" is close to what mine is at, but it has been awile so don't want to steer you wrong. Trial and error plus everybody is a little different on taste.

Did you trim the bump stops?? If I were to lower mine an inch it would be hitting them!!!:argue:

I moved mine all the way to the left then repositioned it to the right about 3/8ths of an inch. It appears to be dead on where I wanted it just hugging the tires.

My sensor was set at highest, I moved it to the lowest, but the air suspension didn't go on. I drove it for a day and the air sus wasn't working all the time, with no light on the dash.
I moved the sensor a bit to raise and the air sus seems to be working fine now.
Is there a way to keep it working while the sensor at the lowest height?
car is 2004.
Thanks,

Thanks for posting that pic.
I'll add that before you adjust your air suspension, I'd use a permanent marker to mark the OEM position.
Great info & advice. Thanks, gentlemen.

I got the 255s in the rear and like my link dead center.

I've got 255's also and lowered mine slighty, didn't like how it handled the bumps so I put the level back to stock. I think I might try lowering it slightly again since I have different rear shocks on this time around.
