Sounds like the band clutch issue everyone's been talking about. If it is, it's not going to be pretty...
(ie. your tranny has worn through the band clutch going into overdrive)

Is it a shuddering sound? Like gears trying to mesh at high RPM's? I have had mine in for that. The dealer couldn't repeat it and didn't find anything "abnormal" in the tranny. Got me a free tranny fluid change and new seals. I still hear it occasionally, most the time at WOT shifting from 3rd to 4th, just when the tachometer redlines. (Could it be a REV limiter?)

I had a customer in my limo tell me that that noise is the torque converter locking up. And probably not doing a great job of it.

I had a Lincoln that did and sounded the same. The Lincoln dealer had to replace my torque converter.
The transmissions are failing, the transmissions are failing, the transmissions are failing. Im sure glad mine is fixed!!
Best of luck with the diagnosis.

it dopes it all the time now, but when its at wot it doesnt do it, just when i am cruising around town and the car shifts into overdrive. I cant get to the dealer anytime soon cause of my schedule so i will drive it and get it in asap, if it breaks while im driving it, o well, thats why the car has a warranty. the vibration feels like its comonmg from the rearend and not the tranny

Three of us all had the same problem with 94 FMC models (two TBirds, one CV). We all had to get rebuilds.
I also remember feeling the shudder many times when riding in airport limos.
I thought Ford had this problem corrected, but I guess not.
Makes me glad my 2003 TBird is a five speeder. No problems with the trans at all, so far.
But, my CD player went bad.

I hate it when they do that... just last week I came home to find my neighbor's family was being held hostage at gunpoint by a CD player that lost it, couldn't take the pressure, grew up on the wrong side of the 8-tracks, head-unit didn't understand him, frustrated with MP3s, etc.etc... the usual stuff.
Sad...

And, to make it even worse, my CD player is holding one of my CDs hostage!!
Refuses to eject!

Not while I'm at work TTA, people will think I'm as nuts as you!
And that's what I thought of too. The one where the Mayo is holding the ketchup and mustard up for their wallet, or this one...

Had the same problem in a '95 TBird. A friend of mine who owns a Mr Transmission shop told me the additives in the tranny fluid were gone and changing the fluid would only relieve the problem for about 10K miles. He told me to put 4oz. of GM positraction additive in the trans. I did this and the problem cleared up in 1/4 of a mile and lasted for about 40K miles. When the problem came back, I repeated the procedure again with the same results.
I'm also experiencing the same vibration you're describing. I haven't had chance yet to see my friend yet to see if this problem can be relieved the same way. When I find out, I'll let you know.

I experienced what you've described in a '94 'Stang, '95 and '97 'Birds, and a '98 Crown. In those cars it was "torque converter shudder." In all of those cases servicing the transmission fixed the problem.
This was a well-known issue with FMC auto trans in the 90's. And if left untreated required a new torque converter and possible rebuild. I also though it was no longer an issue.
Haven't noticed it in my Marauder - yet...

Ah yeah ---the torque converter---ok--had the problem with my '95 & '98 Crown Vic and wifes' '97 T-Bird--in All cases, around the 18- to 25K miles mark, the tranny started to shake while trying to shift while taking an incline --Thought the tranny was hanging up!!!
Turned out to be the torque converter needed be replaced --not a thing wrong with the tranny---seems FMC had a TB on them but were told not to inform the owners unless they came into the shop complaining about this problem--and still do nothing unless customer keeps complaining becasue it was a costly repair--
$ 750 to $ 1K for them to eat---I found this out after badgering the tech's enough ..and after complaining enough --since it was under warranty --they replaced the converters and ALL was fine and has been since.....
So..hopefully if something is or goes wrong--it will be before the end of warranty--cause that was what FMC was and I bet still hopes for--that the warranty runs out when you finally figure it out--oops--then we gotta pay---...
So --it may NOT ALWAYS be the tranny--just check and re-check to make sure--hope this has helped in some way...........Tom

tyranny issue is no longer my compalint, now the car on start up makes a real bad clanging noise, we had a really bad rain storm and had to drive through some high water and i believe the car sucked some water into the motor s it seems the motor is screwed, talked to my service adviser and he said to bring it in and he will have it covered under warranty, thank god

Change or have the oil changed ASAP. I take it the car is running. It is possible to get some water in the oil but if the engine is hydrolocked ( full of water ) It will not run and trying to start it can cause serious damage. Have it towed ( flatbed ) to the Dealer.:(

the car starts. I only started it and then shut it off. I checked the oil and it seemed to be watery, would changing the oil help make it look less suspicious, i am going to have it towed to the dealer, had to have it towed home the other night at 3 AM. I am going to change the oil and get a new air filter tomarrow cause the one in the car is soaked.

Don't be a prick and screw the dealership as well as FMC. warranty is for factory defective parts, not for careless driving through deep water. the proper course of action is to pay for it yourself or make a claim with your auto insurance company to pay the dealer and FMC for your mistake.

if i can get the dealer to eat it then I am, i paid for the dam car and have had nothing but problems with it so i have no problem sticking it to them, if i cant get it replaced under warranty then i will file with my insurance comapny. Its my car so i will take what action i want.

FMC isn't giving anything away. They try to get away with as much as possible when it comes to warrranty claims. If there is a problem the last thing FMC will do is have a recall.

03MERCMARAUDER, 2 wrongs don't make a right !! if you have had a lot of problems, then lemon law the car. People like you ruin it for the ones with legit claims. I DON'T WANT TO COME OFF HARSH, BUT THAT'S THE REALITY !! WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND. maybe you did this one too many times and this is payback.

Sorry you dont agree with the way i am going to handle the problem but like i said its my car so I wil handle this the way i want. I have had ford stick it to me on two cars with warranty repair. So it is my turn to stick it to them
