Ive been searchin these forums to maybe understand a lil bit of this exhaust issue.
I already know im gettin the Flowmaster super 44 mufflers... but what the hell are these "delete tips" that everyone always talk about.... what do they do. for a nice sounding exhaust do i have to ditch the stock tips and get these?.....
And whats up with having to extend the pipes from underneath the bumper?....

so pretty much "Delete Tips" make the exhaust louder..... and u extend the pipes from underneath the bumper so u dont hear the exhaust in the car? (isnt that the point... u would want to hear the exhaust?)..

ppl please dont chump me off... just askin a couple questions

but on the real... if i just throw on some 44's and keep the stock tips how will it sound?

(p.s. i have all 4 cats)

The original Megs exhaust tips had baffles in them to "soften" or "deepen" the sound/note. The delete tips have those baffles removed to provide an improved sound/exhaust note for those that want it. Not sure that the Delete Tips are available anymore -- maybe Wes knows or someone else can chime in.

Some folks have found that "improving' the exhaust note to their taste has resulted in a drone in the cabin. Not too much of an issue on short trips but could be an issue on longer trips. Extending the tips slightly beyond the bumper to reduce the drone somewhat has worked for some people. This is a cheaper alternative than going with DynoMat or some other means that increases weight. Others don't even notice the drone at all.

Hope this helps. If I mistated anything .... please chime in with the straight scoop.

Factory tips contain a resonator, look down them and you'll see the resonator. Resonator = less sound.

Resonator delete tips, you guessed it.... don't contain the resnator. No resonator = more sound.

Extending the tips beyond the bumper (just so you can see "MEGS") makes less sound / drone in the car, something you want as the drone will get very tiresome after driving for awhile.

I'd ditch the 2nd set of cats, go with the flows or Mangaflows and the extended stock tips.

To really appreciate the exhaust sound, I'd suggest to remove the 2nd set of cats. I just replaced my stock mufflers with super 40's on my CV, and the sound change was minimal. When I had these muffles on my MM with just 2 high flow cats the rumble was considerably louder, not too loud, but louder, and that was also with the deleted tips. If I don't sell my Cobra exhaust, it might just end up on the CV also.

Less than $1.500.00.

I did supply the Magnaflows and the shorty headers.

Unfortunately they are no longer in business :(

HAHA Ive never heard that before.

Delete tips not available anymore? Just go to a reputable muffler shop and they will have just about any tip you want. Mine are 4" non-resonated, full stainless and cost me $60 a piece. I still dont know why people pay $200 for 2 tips.

I had my tips extended and it makes a big difference. Noticeably less noise and drone inside the cabin, but still enough sound to appreciate the money you just spent. I recommend it.

I 2nd this recommendation as well. Definately remove the rear cats.

This resinator thing is nothing more than a short piece of pipe inside the tip. I had mine cut off at the beginning of the chrome (front of car), set them on two bricks and pounded the pipe and gasket out, & rewelded back on the car for $40.00.

I don't know why anyone would pay $200.00 or whatever plus install for such very minimal gain in sound. This is not a hard job at all for any shop, and doesn't really look like anything was done unless you know where and what to look for.

Removing the rear cats was one of the best sound mods that i've done! And that was only $30.00!

And finally delta 40's, sound good for quite cruising and give off a nice rumble when waken up. However i'm about to go with the 44's for just a little more sound.

I did not extend my tips because I hate the way it looks, it never droned unless the engine was cold till I neutered the cats, now I wouldn't say its horrible like some have had, but a little annoying. I'm gonna try exhaust weights to decrease the harmonics before I extend the pipes.

Hope this helps.

I have deletes and Super40's. However, due to the wood baffling and construction of the sound system in my trunk - I have not the slightest drone on the highway. I can make it unbearable at 45MPH with a little throttle tip-in but it is LOUD when you get on it. I like it exactly the way it sounds.

It'll sound pretty good with just the Super 44's. That was my first mod. Eventually I craved a louder sound and got delete tips. A few months later I added long tube headers and high flow cats. I'm pretty sure I'm done now.;)

Nope, the 2nd set of cats rest just after the 2nd set of O2 sensors.

Mine are extended out about 1.2-1.4"

I had my stock tips extended a little bit, it made no difference in drone or lack thereof as far as I could tell. It's strictly an appearance item for me.
