OK after reading a thread on here I saw a post by "O's Fan Rich " that the resonator in our stock tips was removable and your left with a deleted tip. So that's what I did. I used a sawzall to cut off the back end of the tip just after the weld. The resonator is just a piece of 2 1/4" exhaust pipe with a ring welded on the end.

Once cut the back end of the tip off I used a 2 1/2 in sprinkler pipe inserted that into the the rolled edge of the tipe and use a hammer to beat the resonator out. Wasn't hard at all. Now I will have my local exhaust shop just weld the back end I cut off back to the tip and BOOM there you go 3 1/2 in deleted tips resurrected. My deleted tips that are on my car now were scratched up a lot and a few slight dings from my accident so I went this route since our tips are not made and I wanted that Megs factory tip. Thanks Rich.......

THANK you NATEHAWK for bringing this back to the surface. I too have a set of OEM tips that will now go through this procedure before I reinstall them in my CV. I knew I kept these things for a reason. Thank you Rich also.

You're welcome, happy to help... but I was not the originator!

TAF showed me that little trick.

You can't even notice the weld once reinstalled unless you look for it. Also just why are these "tailpipes" considered resinaters?

Guys, you need to weld on the new tips anyways, why are so many paying for new ones? I can understand if you want the 4" look, but the 3 1/2's are a waste of money IMHO.

I got a good deal on mine AND I get to keep my originals!

You should see my factory tips. Not pretty. Mag Chloride is horrible to shiny things.

Thats what the state of Colorado uses for ice melt on the roadways.
My car is not a winter driver but unfortunately has been used the last 2 winters while my 4WD was down at times.

I had a local exhaust shop do this for me and when i had them installed I thought the drone was too loud so i picked up a pair of oem resonated ones.

Did you have them extended out. Look like you did, what mufflers were you running?

To make sure im reading this right...

You cut the tip off

cut the back of the tip off

Insert pipe

beat pipe

resonator falls out

have everything rewelded

Car go vroom?

Sweet! :D

Yes I had them extended out about 2 inches and I was running flowmaster 40 series with my fist set of cats emptied and the 2nd set deleted.

Pretty much, but you only have to cut one time. Through the chrome and pipe inside all at once.

Wait, i see the end of the tip where it joins the exhaust, is separated... does that pop off from the hammer force?

Thats were you use the saw and cut to get to the resonator...Put a piece of pipe threw the rolled in an bang the resonator will come out of the end where u cut.

So cut the back end of the tip off (where its already pre welded)

Insert pipe

bash with hammer

Resonator falls out

Reassemble

Got it

Does anyone know what kind of sound this would create with everything else stock?

I would like a little more rumble but nothing too extreme, and cost wise this seems like a much cheaper alternative to new mufflers, having cats removed, etc...

I have the 4 inch tips and it makes the car sound much better IMHO (3.5 deletes should sound the same). The funny thing is the car sounds really cool when cold but quiets up some when it warms up. I suggest you extend the tips out about an inch or an inch and a half so they are not under the bumper, I followed the suggestion here so you dont have a drone effect and it worked out superb. Believe me, it sounds much better than stock.
