Radiator Plastic Pieces

Cleaned my radiator and heater core. I pulled out these plastic pieces with out thinking about how to get them back in. Any ideas? Does the car really need them?

They channel the air flow..... I'd keep them in....

I figured they directed airflow. Tried to get them back in but It wasnt working. Just wondering if anyone had any tips to get them back in.
