Hello All,
How much do you pay for an oil change. I called Jiffy Lube for pricing. They want 24.00 dollars for 5w20 reg oil and synthetic (SP) cost 50.00....is that high? What does the dealer charge?

My service manager only charges me 19.95 for 5W 20. He knows if I dont get a good deal I go to Jiffy Lube. I have been using this dealership for years with my Towncar (traded it for the MM).

Interesting...Jiffy-Lube, being owned by Pennzoil, uses only Pennzoil products...and Pennzoil doesn't make a 5W-20 synthetic or synthetic blend, only regular dino oil. I would NOT use anything less than a synthetic blend, as that's what the factory installs, so either they're stocking another brand, or you'll have to use 5W-30 synthetic...
At the local Jiffy-Lube where the company makes us take our trucks, they charge 32.95 for a complete service with dino oil...I've never priced their synthetic change...I do all my own changes on the Blackbird; Mobil 1 5W-30 and a Motorcraft filter from Wally World $30.16 (plus tax)....

I have been taking my MM to VIP Auto. I get 5-30 Mobil 1 synthetic and a PREMIUM filter....$40.99.
The premium filter will pick up much smaller particles. The debate will never end over the weight, synthetic, synthetic blend or regular oil, but the premium filter for the few extra $'s wins hands down.

I am going to stop by Jiffy Lube during lunch and see what oil the are using for the synthetic....I know they offer other brands than Penzoil....at least they did in March the last time I changed the oil in my truck......Update later.
Thanks for the replies

Jiffy lube uses Castroil for thier synthetic.
Jiffy Lube wants to charge $26.99 + $5.00 per quart of the synth oil. for a total of $56.99.
I goto my dealer whom charges me like $25.00. plus it gets entered into the computer, so there will never be any question about it.
I just had my first one done at the dealer. It cost $20.00 plus they look over all the other fluids etc. The local Jiffy Lube and other clones all want more like $45.00. No-brainer in my book, the dealer is the way to go, not to mention what looking97233 said about it being documented by the dealer.

WOW! Jiffy-Lube in your area is a ripoff! That $26.99 includes 5 qts of dino oil, so they should only be charging extra for the difference between dino and synthetic...individual qts of Mobil 1 at Wally World are only $4.77...your dealer sounds like a much better deal!

My dealer charges $22. Ditto the above - seems whenever I hear of a warranty claim Ford wants proof of service. Not to mention the fact that Jiffy Lube can and does screw up from time to time, and it's not easy to get them to make good on it when they do.
My dealer charges $26.00.
I pay $62 and some change. Royal Purple 5W30, Motorcraft filter at the dealer.
I know it's high, but...it keeps me in good graces with the SM...I consider it....insurance. BTW...my miles are 90% highway so I only go every 5K clicks.

Dealer does me free, for life of car, however, since I spend most of my time on the road, WalMart has Motorcraft oil (the 5W-20) and filters, for around $22.

Just paid 50 at Jiffy Lube for Mobil 1 Synthetic...they had 5w20 and 5w30...I am trying the thirty weight this time.....

Unless it's so new it's not on their web site, Mobil 1 doesn't come in a 5W-20 flavor...there's a 0W-20, though...but I'd say you made the right choice with the 5W-30.
One possible point of concern...most Jiffy Lubes use either Pennzoil or MileGuard filters...both of these are made by FRAM...

Funny --I just called my L/M dealer for my first cost out of my pocket oil change and they said about $14 if I bring in my own oil and filter--said yes I had that - 0W-20 Mobil 1--SM said that was as good as the rec 5W -20 after checking with his tech.....funny though--the Ford dealer where we got wife's T-Bird and had them change it for 6 yrs now, with our own oil----charges only $8.88...go figure--I'll probably still go to the L/M dealer where I bought it cause I'm in with them since wreck was fixed there----"AM the "marauderman" around the place as they call me...wonder why......hummmmm?

I've got a parallell question---I have 7766 miles on my MM and only 4880 & 5 months since last oil change( thus my phone call posted above)--and my oil is still clear silghtly brown and , full on the stick and all can be "read" on it as well......so .....oil is 0W-20 Mobil 1 ----
My question--is it still safe or should I change --I tend to think it's time to change cause of age ( 5 mos) more than miles or stick "looks"--am I right in your opinion...thanks for any input...Tom

Tom: I would change on a miles/time plan. Oil will pick up contamination over time. The only way to really tell is to pull oil samples and send to a lab. IMHO I would not go over 6 months.
I use regular 5W-20 and change every 3,000/3 months.
In the work-a-day world it serves the fleet for at least 400,000 miles.

Tom...you say you've got 4880 miles on the oil...to maintain your warranty you should change it at no more than 5,000 miles...even with synthetic oil, Ford doesn't allow for extended drain intervals...once the warranty is up, you can safely go further if it's mostly highway driving, but if it's mostly around town, you should change it more often. As Bigdog said, it's not so much that the oil wears out, but it gets contaminated...short trips add a lot of condensation to the oil...

Tom - I agree with BDJ that the oil and filter should be changed every 3,000 miles. Clean oil is the life blood of your engine.

Scream, if you're using ANY oil in a brand new car, IMHO, it signals a big problem. I would get it checked ASAP. ! quart every 3K is way too much.

Motorcraft 5W-20 & Motorcraft FL-820S filter at Wal-Mart $13.03 + Tax. Using the above items and changing yourself knowing the job was done right- priceless!

OK MMManic--(do-it-yourself'er--)
Looking for some help here:
Tell us how you keep the oil from getting all over the other under carriage items and making a mess---..cause I use to do all mine as well--until I saw what the MM does watching the tech do mine at the 2886 mark--said --self--no way---let them do it from now on.
So--what is your secret--holding some kinda bent tag to run the oil elsewhere ...thanks.Tom

It's been costing me around $29 for Motorcraft synth blend and a motorcraft filter at my dealer. I've heard an unconfirmed rumor that Motorcraft now has a full synthetic 5w20 and if they do, I'll switch to that next change.
