It is long over due time to install my Stainless Works long tube headers. They don't do any good in the closet. Upon installation thinking the motor will run lean A/F will be off. Will the MAF make nessary corrections ? Is it nessary to get a tune ? Can't realy afford a dyno tune ? Can I get a generic tune loaded to my xcal2 or do I have to get a dyno tune ? What exactly do I ask for?

You would need a dyno tune. You figure every car is somewhat different when it has headers on it.
I would put it on a dyno.

i would think to get maximum benifit of the headers you would need to dyno tune but believe that the MAF would adjust for the increased flow. But I'm just guessing.

In theory, yes.
Real life? No.
You'd think the NEW systems would be easier adapted to mods. They arn't. Hell I'm running a completly stock computer with no tune on my 600hp fox body. hahahaah

That's what I was afraid of needing a dyno tune. Maybe I wait until I get the torque converter installed then headers do a dyno at the same time.

You don't need a dyno tune when changing out the exhaust. The car will work fine but not be optimized. You also don't need a dyno to when changing the torque converter. Those changes are done mostly on the road test or someone that is accustom to making changes to the 4R70w or 4R75w transmission. Example: Zack sent me a tune for my transmission and didn't see the car, but asked a couple of key questions. The cars shifts perfectly without error.
On the other hand there are things that must be changed on the dyno, see the list below. In many cases the car will fail to start or run poorly without a tune. Header can be bolted on without tuning.
Injectors
MAF
Supercharger
Turbo

You will have some codes because of the rear cats are missing.

My car ended up throwing lean codes after the header install.
But that occurred only after Charlie and I were doing some spirited driving heading out to Woodward.
Around home, I did not get codes, but it stalled a few times on me.
After the tune all was well.

On a N/A car you should be fine if you have a SC car I would add 5% accross the board, also if you have a Xcall just data log LTFT and STFT at WOT and you can see where your at and any good tunner can correct it.

Same here. The contention on advisement an imediate tune isn't nessary but would be of benifit. Another pair of hands would be termendous help. I have everything but exhaust manafold stud bolts should they need replacement. Do you think there are nessary ? We will have to find a date maybe some sunday. I'am guessing 3 1/2 hrs per side max.

Seriously, if you have the time, try cracking them loose ahead of time just to be sure.

Now why would you leave it in the closet? Jeeez, leave it in the box and on the living room floor just like me!

I would install them and not worry about a tune immediately, just don't go WOT. Get a tune before driving it hard and running WOT. Probably won't hurt anything, but it will not be optimized until being tuned for proper AFR. Better safe than sorry.
