... if you hadn't bought the Marauder?

I was looking at either the Mazda 6 or the Maxima

Either an Infinity G35 sedan, or a BMW 330ci. Most likely I would've just kept my 2000 Camaro SS.

A GM or CV, maybe a Town Car if it was in the budget.

I was looking at the Taurus and the Nissan Altima. Whatever I got was going to be black. I saw the MM and couldn't pass up the deal I got. I would have paid more for an Altima than I did for my MM.

If not this I would have waited for the 04 GTO.

Once I saw that they did not do anything nice with the body design on the GTO I bought my MM.

I was looking at several ...

Mercury Cougar limited edition, Mustang GT convertible or a Ford Escape (mini-SUV).

Heck I drove just about everything Ford makes, since I was shopping on the family plan. (Brother-in-law works at Ford HQ.)

I would loved a chance to have test drove the Mazda Miata, but I couldn't figure out how to cut off my legs.

I really liked the Cougar. I'm thinking of making that my second car ... to drive on rainy days.

The answer is "nothing." Didn't absolutely need another car. But I fell in love, and love makes us do funny (and sometimes expensive) things.

Don't want to start another thread, but here's a question: how long does the new car smell last? At five months mine still has it, but of course not as strong as when new. How much longer will it last?

I have more cars than I know what to do with. Buying the MM gave me an excuse to dump my wife's commuter car, a 92 Escort!

I would not have bought anything else. I am not impressed with FWD cars and my stable is full of American models only.

Others:

67 Corvette 435 Coupe
67 Olds 442 (can you say torque?)
66 Mustang GT
97 Ford Taurus Wagon

RX8 but no incentives at all due to it being new and Mazda wants all it can get. So I got the Marauder for the same price as the Base auto RX8.

I'm with amerikan. I test drove the Acura, and it kicked ass pretty good. Also test drove an Altima with the V-6 and it was pretty smooth. The only problem was that I had 2 Mustangs at the time, and ran into some real psychological problems with giving up two perfectly good All-American musclecars for a ricer---even one as good as the Acura. I was about to bite the bullet and get a Taurus (already knew I was coming to STL and figured I'd need the FWD). But then I went slightly insane and went for the Marauder anyway...

Insanity is good...

I went to the Dealer in Temple, TX and fully intended to buy a blue '04 Subaru WRX and then spend $3500.00 to get the horsepower up to 350.....

My wife said it was too small and I seized the opportunity to show her the Silver Marauder I REALLY wanted.

She said I needed a bigger car to match my professional stature:

Hah! I got what I wanted and the wife backed me.....

What a great experience.

I wasn't in the market for a car. My '97 Cougar is still in great shape. As soon as I read about the Marauder, I knew I had to have the first one I found! Got mine July 2, 2002. I have yet to find one purchased in Southern California before mine.

I was all ready for a 350Z, until I test drove it and realized I didn't fit (I'm 6'7"). It was damn sweet, but my left knee got in the way of my hands on the wheel, and I didn't want it with an auto tranny. Shortly after this, we found out my wife is pregnant, so I'm kinda glad I couldn't get the two-seater.

I had a '73 Cuda for a muscle car, but it was always breaking down. My daily driver was a '99 Tahoe which was roomy and dependable, but dull. When I saw the Marauder I sold them both and bought an MM. Now, I've got the best of both worlds! I was also considering an RX8, but it was just too small.

Nothing against the Marauder, but you would have loved the TBird.

Different type of car; you tend not to push it to the limit, although it can run pretty good right from the factory, but there's nothing like driving to work with the top down on a chilly fall morning, throwing in some good CDs (once I get mine fixed), putting the heat high and the seat warmer "on".

Makes you want to bypass that last turn to work, and, in my case, just keep driving to the Jersey shore or the Pa Poconos.

But, when I dump my Towncar, and, if the Marauder's still around........................ .......................

Was negotiating for an M5...pricing was within reason(??) but could NOT see waiting 5 months for delivery.

Drove an '02, 740i and was impressed with the enclosed tool kit and FREE maint. for LIFE!!
Salesman was a bit peeved when I tried to do a burn out...said it detracted from the car's impeccable credentials (??)
Guess he REALLY would not understand what I'd do with the M5 on a test drive....

Problem with an M5 is NO DEALER (in these parts) has one to look at OR drive. Pictures are meaningless to me...too much glitter can be 'brushed on' to heighten the appeal.

So, here I am with a soon to be obsolescent MM, bought at what I BELIEVED to be a fair price (for what it offers) and $40K spare change to dabble with.....what to do now is the dilemma...

At least with the M5, the return on (resale) the initial investment is not lost to a whim as is the necessary $$$$$ put into the MM to get the same or similar kick in the arse performance.

I do wonder WHY BMW does NOT offer an auto trans. with the M5. Paddles would be sooo convenient!!

Oh well, be not discontent...be happy with that which you have; as there are MANY who have NOTHING!!

If I had known about the shortcomings about the MM before I bought it (anemic off the line, crappy 'premium sound'), I would have kept my 96 Impala SS and tweaked it. At least I would still have a known entity and not a car that let me down so badly as far as advertised expectations.

I don't have the money to modify it to what it was advertised to be. I guess I naively expected that for $47,000 (Cdn) I would get what they promised in their advertisements.

I was looking at the following, but the Marauder always topped the list:

1) 1996 Impala SS (interior was just a tad old for me)
2) 2002 or newer Cadillac STS (long term reliability issues concerned me)
3) Crown Vic LX Sport or GM LSE (close to same look, just short on power - would like one for a daily driver)
4) BWM 540i (winter driving concerns and maintenance costs to high)
5) Grand Prix GTP or Regal GS (decent stock power, reliable, can modify, but FWD)

Just had to get the Marauder while I could. I have put a lot of miles on here in the last 18 months, but will get a daily driver/beater to help with that and plan on keeping the Marauder for a long time. Still wouldn't mind a GM B-Body car with the LT1 in it.

I was not in the car market when I bought mine. I had a fully loaded and fully paid off 1995 Taurus SE. Everything but a sunroof. I saw Tom's Marauder and had to have one. Asked for dibs if he ever sold it - was told to "go find your own". So I did, 11 months of searching later. It got difficult knowing there were so many black ones on ebay and whatnot. I drove a new Maxima and hated the FWD. Drove a Lexus CPO GS430 and loved it, hated the $50,000 USED car price tag. Vowed to ONLY buy a silver/sunroof Marauder if I found one. I started giving up and Claude found me one in Hialeah, I made a cash deposit over the phone and drove over and got it. I have never regretted it and I have never driven or owned a car that made me feel better. If they didn't make the Marauder at all I would still be in the Taurus.

I was happy in my 95 TC, but I had been pestering my wife for a MM since 2002. I love big full frame ford cars, and I had been in trucks for a long time and wanted a nice daily driver. the TC is very nice, but the MM is as nice, and has attitude.

I think I will sell off an extra truck or two, and try to locate a decent GM LSE with floor shift for a everyday driver. if its black, that ok too...

I was strongly considering a couple of Lincoln LS V8's (an '02 and an '03 Sport), having just come out of a Mark VIII. Also test drove and gave consideration to '04 Mazda 6s (the V6 version), '03 Infiniti G35, '03 Acura TL-S, '03 Audi A4 2.8, '01 Audi A6 2.7TT, and the Nissan Maxima (had an '07 for 2 weeks as a rental, newest in my price range was probably '04).

The Audi had the nicest interior (by FAR). The LS felt most comfortable on the test drive. The TL had the most gizmos (Nav system primarily). But the MM was the most powerful, had the most attitude, and was without question the RIGHT car for me. 4 months and 5k miles under my belt, and I'm Very Happy with my choice. :)

I was ready to pick up a Crown Vic Sport, when John & Barb located the MM in Hanover, PA, one Sunday afternoon in August, on a circle tour. The price was the same, since the MM had been on the lot since December, and was heavily discounted. It was an easy choice. Right now, I can't think of a single new domestic automobile I'd consider buying. That's an astonishing thought, when in the past, it would be a choice among many, and now I wouldn't consider driving any of the lot, It's sad, really.:(

Unfortunately none of these vehicals exist in Minnesota anymore. At least not in a rust free condition. I did consider a competition orange Mach1 Mustang but insurance rates killed that idea.
