Mine has been doing this since the start of last winter, it only seems to do it in the mornings. Today I finally tested the starter off the car and sure enough this is the culprit. Beyond the very dried out grease inside I noticed a small (1/4"-3/8") peice of magnet broke off one of the magnet corners. I simply removed this piece and regreased all moving mechanicals and now she sounds like a brand new starter! If you are mechanically able to remove the starter then you are MORE than able to take off the two 8MM bolts to get inside. Don't worry nothings gonna fly out at you. I know of three Rauders and one Vic that make the exact sound.

this is the sound that i'm referring to.

Hey guys,
Just to add to this one, my car's been making a rattle noise on startup when cold for quite a while. It only did it when cold, so I thought it was the tensioner noise I've read about on other threads.
Two days ago, the car wouldn't start, and stranded me at Best Buy.
Got it towed, and it turned out to be the starter, and now the startup rattle is gone. Very similar to the earlier post.
Thought I'd share this. If you have a startup rattle/noise, check the starter.
