M112...........

M112........

Most people get this wrong. The M112 implies that it's the same unit used in the 03/04Cobra and it's not.

It's a magnuson mp112

Correction it's a MP112 Gen 5

So it's the MP112, and not the M112?

Thanks to all that replied...:)

Blower case and porting is improved over the eaton version. Notice the model number MP 112 4G
Note: This case has bee modified (ported) but the basic design is the same.

The pulley's attach to the blower differently and are not interchangeable between the eaton and magnuson

Eaton is the factory installed OEM, like the Tbird Supercoupe and Magnuson is aftermarket, right? :D

That's sounds about right Bunny. I don't know if you can purchase the retail Eaton M112 blower from anyone but Ford new.

I guess that i'm now confused, why does everybody (including yourself) call them Eaton's. Is that the maker and the magnuson does their magic to them, or is magnuson the maker???????

Thanks Merc. So basically ours are a more advanced version of the typical factory Eaton.

Yes, I believe the OEM Eaton is a gen 1 design and was developed in 2000 or 2001 for ford.

Lysholm is......

^^^ The Lysholm is a twin screw blower, which I assume is the supplier for the supercharger in the Trilogy twin screw kit.

Magnuson is (one of) an aftermarket distributor of Eaton based superchargers and supplies the 'Eaton' s/cs you see in many aftermarket kits, AFAIK standard Trilogy kits included.

Like any Eaton S/C - the M112 isn't specific to Ford applications, the case can be engineered and cast to the manufacturer's specifications for package space, mounting, layout, etc. - but still remaining an "m112"
For example the Cobras had an angled side inlet plenum where as Lightings had the cast upwards inlet. Some may have an internal bypass, some external - it depends on the car.

Which generation the supercharger is depends on the year and model of the vehicle in question. The '89 Ford Supercoupe (Tbird) was the first production application for the Gen 1 supercharger, a 90ci variation (M90). Just a few years later the third generation replaced the first on the MN12 application, again staying an M90. The Cobras and Lightnings all used fourth generation M112s. The 'new' generations (4th and 5th) are easily recognized by their revised basic case design and snout.

Magnuson is an aftermarket distributor for Eaton S/Cs and designs their own cases and supporting components. Unlike production vehicles, Magnuson doesn't have to worry as much about NVH concerns or vehicle-specific requirements. Because of which; besides Magnuson's larger 'universal' rear inlet pattern and internal bypass with repositionable valve (which is the same for 'aftermarket' 4 & 5 gen MP90 and 112), the Magnuson versions (ie MP112) normally aren't the same as an OEM Eaton supercharger of same generation, as Merc touched on earlier. Most notably the outlet port is much longer and larger in size than most OEM Eaton versions, and the 'silencing' ports revised - but this also depends on what OEM application of the 'same' blower you are comparing it to.
