I wanted a Marauder with a sunroof/moonroof but i wasnt lucky enough to get one. recently ive been speaking to the dudes at the ford/lincoln/mercury dealership where i got my first MM and they say that to get a sun/moon roof installed it will run about 1300 dollars.... Now i have never met anyone who has had a "roof" put into there vehicle after they had purchased it.. but for some reason im thinkin that if i was to get this process done that they would mess up my car.. meaning that the "roof" would b off to the side or future back than if it came stock (I know they shipped the cars to an outside location to get the roofs installed)
I was just wondering if 1300 sounds like a correct number..... and also has anyone ever known anyone or have done it themselves got a sun/moon roof installed in their vehicle and did it work perfectly? did it look "right"?...
I have the long "thingy" on my ceiling that holds the sunglasses... so i suppose that they would just throw that out or something?.....
And while im askin things... I noticed that when i go in reverse that my speedometer stays at zero... i never looked at it i just assumed that it showed how fast i was going.... does anyone else's not show their speed when their in reverse?
im just askin questions, lets see if anyone tries to chump me off

When my Marauder goes in reverse, my speedo goes backwards...
I had a power sunroof installed in my 99 F150, 10 years ago now. Still works fine, no leaks. But then I found an excellent installer, made the headliner look like it was specially made for the truck. I believe that I paid only half that amount.

There are very few companies that can do it perfectly. I would ask your local dealerships who they use. There is no margin for error with a sunroof. A simple pop-up glass sunroof can be $400 installed while an inbuilt electric will be upwards of $1500. It is labor intensive. It requires dropping the headliner and all the pillar trim, visors, lights and whatnot. Maybe cutting a roof support, drain tubes are ran down the fore and aft pillars and the tub is bolted into place. Then the entire headliner backboard has to be cut, modified and reinforced and then covered again. All that and running wires for the motor and switch. I did sunroofs before - it is not pleasant.

Take the time and do the research to find the right installer. As said above it will make a difference. $1300 for a power "Moon Roof" sounds about right. Was that for a Ford kit or after market?

The sunroof Marauders use an overhead console from a Town Car. It is a one-touch open switch and maplights all built in. They also use a specific headliner and have the incomplete vehicle designation in the VIN. All real Marauders with sunroofs start with "2MHHM".

It's on the overhead console. It's an OE Ford piece - completely stock.

It's located in the overhead console, single switch that operates both open/close and flip up. OEMs also have a sliding panel in the headliner to cover the moon roof. I don't have the window sticker from my DTR, but if I recall, the moon roof option was around $1,100 - 1,200.
IMO, great feature, I really miss having one.

gotcha
all the sunroofs were added after the cars were built , so in fact , they all were put in aftermarket, yes its in the vin,but thats how it happened,
but if you spend the time to make sure that the installer gets one from the OE manufacturer, (they are still available) then the install should be as good as original provided the insaller is quallified

Mac-Merc, What speedo dosn't work in reverse! AHH that's "not" good at all, had the same problem, Dealer wanted $1,785.00 for a rear redirectzone gear's, just 3 small gear's but have to pull the whole trans apart to replace. :-( If ya can do it your self saves a lot of money. Hey who has that ford gear number now to pass on?

i look for a marauder with a moonroof for 3 months. and boy im glad i waited to find one with it i love it. as far as getting one put in what i was going to do is buy the overhead console for a marauder, mgm, cv, or lincolin town car in the color i needed and see if the instaler could use the switch for the aftermarket moonroof. but i found one with a moonroof so i did not have to worry about it.

Webasto Hollianda is what you are looking for, I had one put in my LX Sport, I negotiated price, $1100 out the door was where I ended up with mine.
My MM has a factory roof, the aftermarket looks more "factory" than the factory unit. As a sidenote, the aftermarket switchs leave a little to be desired, I wound up buying a factory switch assembly off Ebay. Keep in mind, the factory switch's switch 12V+, the aftermarket unit switch's grounds, so some work with relays will be necessary, but it can be done. I have a diagram I drew up if you chose to go this direction....

Good Deal! Well thats $1,800.00 ya saved but ya better call them first, these gears will have to be ordered as it's not a normal problem. Ask me how I know! See I drove my car around for a while, broken gear pieces plogged the reverse plutnum valve and I burnt the bands so take care of it ASAP!

if i remember correctly. some people on the forum told since i too would like to get one installed, that the brand that mercury used was webasto. here is their web site. http://www.webasto.us/am/en/am_auto_sunroofs.html
i think there is a section where you can find installers for their products.
$1300 souns right. i contacted a local company and was quoted $1200 for the webasto brand. 1995 i had a power sunroof installed in my car and it too cost $1200 and work really well. no leaks. good luck. i am going to get one installed soon too. i miss an open roof since i have always had t-tops or a power sunroof.
