Yesterday morning, I left in the MM for a short road trip to one of our 'sister' plants to meet up with the LAN Admin. that is part of the team I am on.

Samantha and I have communicated over the phone, emails, IM's and asked for each other's help, etc. but have never met face to face.

About 110 miles, I arrived at my destination (record time :D), called Sam on the phone and she had someone meet me in the lobby to let me in.

We head up the stairs to her office, and was told Sam would return shortly.

While powering up my laptop, I hear 'Boo!' from a familiar voice and turned to see Sam at the doorway.

We exchange pleasantries, checked emails, took a few phone calls etc.

I had told her the previous day I would take her for a coffee shortly after I arrived at her plant.

Both being thirsty we head for the parking lot for a drive to the nearest Starbucks for a Latte' (her) and a Coffee (me).

She asked if I wanted her to drive and said I promised to take her for a ride.

Pointing out the MM to her, she told me how nice of a car it was and had never seen one like it. (Imagine that, lol).

I opened the door for her and she started arranging herself to get out of her wheelchair and into the passenger seat.

Once she was situated, she showed me how to disconnect the wheels from her chair to make it easier to put into the trunk.

After a few minutes, chair was loaded and the pipes came to life.

Moonroof open at this point and exiting the parking lot I stepped down on the loud pedal...

"You're gonna get a ticket driving that fast!"

We both had the grin as I let off the gas and cruised easy to the expressway.

After getting our coffee and heading back, she told me that her accident happened 15 years ago...

She was driving a Trans Am and swerved to miss a dog and climbed a guard rail. Ultimately the car flipped, broke out the T-tops cutting her face to where she was unrecognizable.

From all of that she also suffered a small puncture at the base of her neck causing her to be confined to a chair.

After returning to the plant, we worked together a few hours longer then I headed back to Louisville (record time :D), to my office for the remainder of the afternoon.

Samantha is a wonderful person and has a great outlook on life in spite of her limitations.

A breath of fresh air to anyone that has met her.

Mike.

Mind you I'm not slamming Sam,I'm really sorry to hear about her injuries, and I'm a dog lover, but a long time ago my father gave me a piece of advice before I started driving and I passed it on to my son,"hit the damn dog or other small critter) if you have to,don't swerve or go nuts trying to miss it,better it dies than you do".
Like I said,it may sound cruel but if it's the critter or me or mine, sorry critter but you lose.

This advice is more true to bikers such as you and I Lar and that is what I have passed on to many people also, great advice.

Mike, glad you made a new friend, and even more I'm glad she is still happy in life.

I also agree I'm glad that Mike made a new friend and she's happy, she must be a helluva woman. My mother had MS and was confined to a wheel chair when I was only about 3 or 4 and she pretty much took it in good spirits too but to this day I doubt I could.
