What weight oil do I need to get and how much of a pain is it to do???

eoooww... Rear end oil smells like aboslute hell. Any autoparts store or dealer should be able to tell yyou what you need to use. I did the rear end of a lincoln town car, it wasnt too bad but wasnt fun.
Wear clothing you wont mind throwing out afterwards though, incase you get some on yourself...

hmm i was told 75 90 when i just put mine in. gear oil definitly smells like crap, my garage still stinks...

Get Royal Purple since it comes with the friction modifer already in it.

FoMoCo TSB'ed that spec' a while ago > Synthetic 75W-140.

only put maybe 100 mils on it, think i hurt anything?No, you haven't hurt anything at all. Don't bother changing it. The factory fill was 80W-90 conventional. If you've already swapped it to 75W-90, fresh fluid is always better than old deteriorated fluid. 75W-140 synth is what Ford supplied in the axle TSB kits because those kits could be used on CVPIs and trucks that came with synth from the factory.
If you're going to change it out anyway, then by all means use 75W-140 synth; either Motorcraft or RP will be fine.
