View Full Version : Same size tires cause traction control light to come on

I have a 2003 Silver Marauder that I recently changed tires to 255x55x18 all around.

Since doing that, the traction control system activates while driving normally.

Has anyone gone through this change and what did you do to get the traction control system to stop coming on while driving at highway speed ?

I have a Diablo 7146 which I used to flash the ECU. It has an option in it to change tire size. Will that fix it ?

Thanks.

Bill

The reason why the traction control light comes on is because the ABS/Traction control system does not see the "rake" where the larger tire is in the rear, smaller in the front. Simple fix for that is turn the traction control off each time before you start driving.

Welcome to the forum also!

I love the "RAKED" look.
Wouldnt change it for anything.

When I bought my '04, the mechanics took the rears and put them on the front (and vis-versa), and same thing. The computer sees a difference in the circumference (length around the outside of the tire), and thinks there's a problem. I told them this; they put all the tires back to where they should be...and fixed. No light!

I have an 03 with traction control.....all the 300B's have it (decontented version). You need different sized tires or shut off the traction control each time. Don't know if extended run will cause any problems.

This can not be corected in the EEC, you can change revs per mile, but the fix would be to get a ABS unit out of a 03 CV or GM with ABS

I was going to do the same thing on my car, but ran into clearance issues on the front. Have you had any problems with rubbing, especially in tight radius turns?

If you turn off the traction control whenever you drive the car, no problems, I ran mine through one set of 245/55/18's (approx 20K miles) with no ill effects.

Tom Doan is running 255/55/18 up front on his Marauder. However, his is an early 300A model without traction control as I recall. To prevent ABS/TC issues, the system has to see about a 3-6% size difference between the fronts and the rears. Otherwise, the only solution that I have heard of is to turn off the traction control.

The 255/55s are too beefy up front IMHO.

I would love to put 295's on the back and 255's on the front.

What would be the complete size spec for the 295's ?

295x45x18 ?

Thanks.

Fat on the front is fine. I also ran 255's. Its the Profile that provides the monster truck look.
